What's A Janz?

Some more Christmas music from random gospel singers now. It's a various artists collection, but all the artists seem to be some subset of The Janz Team, of which most of the members are from the Janz family. Interesting stuff, give it a try. This is The Janz Team Sing The Great Songs Of Christmas (Hymns That Live/Janz Bros 3006, Mono). Nice cover, I'm sure that's why I picked it up to record.

1. Ferd Berg Choral, Ferdinand Berg-Conductor-Angels From The Realms Of Glory
2. The Janz Quartet-Silent Night
3. The Janz Duet-Hildor Janz & Leo Janz-Thou Didst Leave Thy Throne
4. Hildor Janz-Sleep Little Child Divine
5. The Janz Trio-Away In A Manger
6. Ferd Berg Choral, Ferdinand Berg-Conductor-It Came Upon The Midnight Clear
7. Hildor Janz-There's A Song In The Air
8. The Janz Duet-Hildor Janz & Leo Janz-While Shepherd's Watch Their Flocks By Night
9. The Janz Quartet-O Holy Night
10. Hildor Janz-When The Lord Of Love Is Born

  1. You seem to have acquired a lot of Canadian records. Was this from a trip or just Discogs?

  2. Ferd Berg and Hildor Janz sound like they should be neighbors of Fred Farkle and Ferd Berfel.

  3. I grew up, around hearing about both Ferd Berg and The Janz Quartet. My parents, when they immigrated from Montana to Alberta, Canada, in 1965 - My Dad taught at Prairie High School, part of the overall Schools of Prairie Bible Institute, in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. My Dad also attended the College part of PBI. A long story short, The Janz Quartet started as touring group, for PBI, and Ferd Berg was in charge of the music department of PBI for years. He then left Three Hills and PBI, and moved to Calgary, Alberta. He started the singing group, Ferd Berg Chorale, which was under the umbrella of Janz Team Ministries, until after the Janz Team switched to do full time ministry in Germany. At that time, or around that time, the Ferd Berg Chorale became The Berg Chorale, and were on their own. Ferd Berg passed away in the 1990's, but his wife is still living. Also, my wife's Father sang in the Berg Chorale, from the late 1970's until the chorale disbanded in the mid 2000's. Both the Janz Team and Berg Chorale put out many records, even for Word Records and Image VII besides on their own.

    1. Thanks for the great story! Learning the history of a record and a family like this make it that much more exciting to me. There's more to a record than just a pretty cover. :)
