45-Wintertime

Two days in and 2021 seems OK so far.  I'm going to keep monitoring it though, and see how it goes. In the meantime, I've got another collection of songs for you. I started by grabbing all the songs that featured the word Wintertime in the title, then just Winter, but that didn't give me a very large collection at this late date, so I expanded the theme a little to include all sorts of things that might occur in the winter time. A ski song, plenty of snow songs, some skating, frost, a sleigh ride, you get the idea. It's a pretty eclectic mix of things, but I'm sure it's a wonderful collection of music. As you've heard me say 45 times already this season, all of these wonderful 78 transfers have been taken from the collection at The Internet Archive. And if you think I'm sharing a lot, you should see the vast amount of stuff I haven't touched. It's not all Christmas/winter related, so it seems to go on forever as you sift through it. Anyhow, only a small sampling today of what they have to offer, but a good collection I'm sure you'll enjoy.

44-Scoop The Fourth

Happy New Year to you and yours! Here's hoping that 2021 is a much better year than 2020. I'll get back into the Christmas music today after spending yesterday sharing some New Year music with you.  And today is one of those days with no theme, just a random collection of goodies pulled from whatever I've got left in the pile.  As is usually the case, it's all from 78s that I've sourced from the huge collection offered up for free at The Internet Archive. I've downloaded, de-clicked, de-noised, edited and copied everything to MP3 just for fun, and I'm sharing it with you so that you can appreciate this old music like I do. It's a great mix of stuff today, I'm sure you'll find something in there to enjoy.  And as I keep saying, let me know in the comments if you find anything in here you like.

43-Happy New Year

At first I was going to throw this up tomorrow on New Year's Day, but I figure it wouldn't do you any good after most of the big day had passed. Then I thought about doing it at midnight local time, but who's going to be checking the blog then? So I'm throwing it up now while there are still a few hours before the big celebrations at midnight. That'll leave you plenty of time to give a listen to this excellent collection of songs about the New Year that aren't Auld Lang Syne (those were all in the last post). Some really excellent stuff in here, I was proud of quite a few finds here. There's some dialect humor, some spoken word, a Hawaiian selection, polkas, you name it. I will point you towards one selection that you may think is out of place, and that's the Harmonicats selection called The Record Ban Blues. It references a very special New Year's night many years ago that you may not know the back story to, but it's neat to record collectors ("With Some Rhythm Accompaniment..."). Oh, and yet another sound effects record! I tell you, it's all here.  Big kudos to the folks at The Internet Archive who's collection I plundered for these records. I hope you have a great night, and may 2021 be a whole heap better than 2020!  Enjoy!
