That Pomodoro Again

Here are a couple more shots of that Pomodoro Sphere in DC. You saw a picture of this from the last trip, but this time I had the chance to go down into the garden where it's displayed, walk around it, and get some more interesting shots. I still don't know if this one moves or not, or if it's supposed to.


Like his other works, the devil is in the details. The closer you get, the more there is to see. I don't think the spiderwebs are original to the piece, however.

Yet Another Pomodoro

I spotted my third sculpture by Pomodoro while in DC. This one was in Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden, near the Hirshhorn Museum, part of the Smithsonian Institution. I didn't walk down into the garden to get a closer look, or to find out the name of the piece, because once you've seen one Pomodoro sphere, you've pretty much seen them all. The other sphere I saw was in New York last Fall, and before that I saw one of his disks in Charlotte, NC. Searching online,. I believe this one is called Sphere No. 6.

Another Pomodoro

Did I mention that I found another sculpture by Pomodoro? I don't think I did. This sphere is located out front, and just to the left, of the United Nations complex in NYC. I didn't know it was there, I just stumbled across it as I was walking by, but I knew what it was when I saw it. I spotted my first Pomodoro in Charlotte, NC. This one is not quite as high, but it's a full sphere instead of just a cylinder. You can't get close to it, so I couldn't tell if it moved or not.


Look close and you can see me in there, with an unrecognizable chunk of the New York City skyline rising in the background. I tried to get a shot with the UN building behind me, but that would have been the section of the sphere where the interior was exposed, so it wasn't reflective.

A UFO In CLT

Someone pointed out to me today that it had been ages since I posted anything to the blog, and I suppose they are correct. I've been busy with other things, and time sort of gets away from me. So here's something from my trip to Charlotte, NC that I meant to bring you earlier. This is a piece of public art located in downtown called Grande Disco. It's quite the impressive piece, and it was one of the things I wanted to make sure I saw while in Charlotte. It reminded me a little of a Borg spaceship (in a new shape that we haven't seen before, but plausible in my mind) or perhaps the spaceship that brought the giant cockroach to earth in Men In Black. Either way, it's an impressive piece of work. I think it used to spin, but it's currently fixed in place.



Hmmm, I guess this piece isn't unique.
