Around The Clock Saturday-Part 27

And finally, this concludes our broadcast day. Thanks for playing along with me on yet another really long Saturday. Still a couple more Saturdays between now and Christmas, I wonder if I can keep doing this? We'll have to wait and see. Now, here's Vic Barrel with White Christmas (Atlantic 7" 45 RPM 45-2083, Mono, 1960). Major label release, yet I've never seen or heard of it before now. I guess that happens sometimes. You've probably heard all about this one, but it was new to me.

It's getting mighty late at night to be sharing Christmas music, but that made me think of this record, so here is The Hoosers-Why Is Santa Late For Christmas (CLW 7" 45 RPM CLW 7012, Stereo). Technical note: Some of these records that I'm sharing may or may not actually be in stereo. Sometimes it's hard to tell without headphones, so I figure it's better to share a mono record in stereo than a stereo record in mono. Just FYI.

Every time I see this record in my playlist, I read it as Suzanne Somers, and I wonder where I got a Christmas record from her. Then I look again and I realize my mistake. You'd think I'd learn, but no. Every...Single...Time. Anyhow, this is Susan Summers And Choir, Direction: Sy Oliver with Christmas Is Coming (Quality 7" 45 RPM K1814, Mono, 1958). Don't make the same mistake I keep making.

Sticking with the single songs for the rest of the night, this is Rudy West & The Keys with I Want You For Christmas (Classic Artists Recordings 7" 45 RPM 45-115, Stereo, 1989).

All you need to know about this record is the suit the guy's wearing on the cover. Dig it! And I guess the boots aren't bad either. This is Michael Finley-Christmas Each Day (Bumble Bee 7" 45 RPM FS-101, Stereo, 1990).

Gettin' late. Do you know where your Christmas music is? Why, it's right here, of course. This is The Ramsey Lewis Trio with Mary's Boy Child (Cadet 7" 45 RPM 5662, Stereo, 1970), a single that's been lost to time. Ramsey released two classic Christmas albums back in the day, and I think those have both seen the light of digital day at some point in the past few years, but this single is still pretty unknown and unavailable. But now you know about it, so enjoy! (You'd think they would get the writer's name correct here, but no. It's Hairston, not Jairston...)

Anybody still with me? Have you been here all day? Does anyone sit around all day waiting for me to post all this stuff, or do you all come buy on Sunday and download everything at once? Just curious since I can't see what goes on behind the blog. I had to upgrade some of the code behind the blog to go along with some new Google code a couple months ago, and it shows me a little more detail about visitors, but not too much. I'm certainly not spying on anyone, though I do with I had some measure of how many downloads my shares get. MEGA doesn't keep track of that since it's no longer geared toward illegal file sharing like back in the day. But I'm rambling, you just want to know what the song of the moment is. This is Tony Fox With The Tones-I Saw Santa's Reindeer (El Apache 7" 45 RPM 803, Stereo, 1978).

Another winter-themed single side for you now. Wish I knew more about this one, so if you're the expert on Winifred Atwell, please chime in. This is Snow Bells (Columbia 7" 45 RPM 4-43472 Not For Resale-Radio Station Copy, Mono, 1966).

Need A Trim?

Another long day around these parts, but a good one. Are you in the mood for some more Christmas music? How about some barbershop? How about some female barbershop singers? Have I got your attention? Feast your eyes on this one, The Renee Craig Singers-Directed By Renee Craig-A Gift Of Love (Ramapo Valley Sweet Adelines 10CID-1/03FI-B1, Stereo, 1981). Yeah, I think you might enjoy this one.

Time for another record that actually features two tracks, instead of the single sides I've been sharing most all day with you. I know it's a bit of a pain to only get the one song in a download, but I couldn't come up with any good ways to lump them together, other than just a random pile, and I was trying not to do that this season. So just bear with me, we'll get through this somehow. For now, here's both sides of a single by, well, each side is by a different artist. It's Tony Sacco with Jolly Fat Man on one side and Weber Chorus with Charles Wesley's Hark The Herald on the other. Details aren't important, but here they are anyway (Weber 7" 45 RPM R-172, Mono, 1960). Enjoy!

I'm sure you all know who Neil Hefti is, but for the uninitiated, he's the man behind the original theme to the Batman TV show from the sixties. Most of his music doesn't sound like that, but that doesn't mean it's not also great. Case in point, this seasonal single that I just discovered this year. This is Neil Hefti-Winter Song (20th Century Fox 7" 45 RPM 434, Mono, 1963).

2022 At 78 RPM-Part 50

Please allow me to barge into the avalanche of Christmas vinyl for your weekly infusion of Shellac goodness. This series has been going on since the very beginning of the year, but there's still a few weeks left for me to squeeze in everything in the folder. And the past month was a good one at The Internet Archive, and I was able to add a bumper crop of 78s to the sharing folder. That means you get a huge 50 tracks in the download today instead of the usual 30. The bad news is that 18 of those are from a budget-label collection where they squeezed three songs to a side, so the fidelity leaves a little something to be desired. Many of you will recognize the tracks off of various other records, but they're still worth a listen. That still leaves 32 other tracks about which I have no reservations. There are a few repeats in there that sharp-eyed visitors might recognize. Sometimes I try to grab cleaner copies than I've shared in the past, but I think these are repeats because they came with picture sleeves this time around. I always enjoy sharing artwork with you when I can, so I hope you enjoy that as much as I do. Other than that, there's not a whole lot to talk about here, it's just another great selection of tracks from 78 RPM records courtesy of The Internet Archive. Enjoy!
