Different Dorothy
In an attempt to be cute, here are some more sides by someone else named Dorothy after that last record by someone named Dorothy. Well, it's a segue, that's all I can say about it. Dorothy Collins was a popular singer who released a Christmas LP for the Everest label, but this is a collection of some singles that she released for other labels. All the music here is quite good, possibly because she worked with top-notch bandleaders such as Lawrence Welk, Dick Jacobs and of course her husband, Raymond Scott. One of the records here is something I've shared before in a different pressing without the cover, so it's technically a remaster, but I probably didn't title it as such.
1. Christmas Comes But Once A Year
2. Baby's First Christmas
3. Jingle Bells
4. White Christmas
5. Deck The Halls
6. Oh Holy Night
7. The Twelve Gifts Of Christmas
8. Mister Santa (Christmas Version Of "Mister Sandman")
Oooh, this is a good one!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I still like her Christmas LP. :)
DeletePlanning to check these sides out tomorrow. I know for a fact the "Mister Santa" recording by her is a great tune. A traditional pop oldies show based out in Cedar Rapids, Iowa played it a couple of times during the Christmas season on Sunday afternoons.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think Mr. Santa is better than the flip side. Thanks for the comment!
DeleteVery good version of White Christmas that shows off a different side of her vocal register. Gorgeous take on O Holy Night as Dorothy, the orchestra and the chorus give this song the kind of reverence and respect it truly deserves.
ReplyDeleteThat EP is pretty early in her recording career, and was sold on the open market to whoever wanted to put their name on it as a promo giveaway. It's good stuff, but I don't know how much control she had over it.
