Around The Clock Saturday-Part 17

I'm sure you all know who Neil Hefti is, but for the uninitiated, he's the man behind the original theme to the Batman TV show from the sixties. Most of his music doesn't sound like that, but that doesn't mean it's not also great. Case in point, this seasonal single that I just discovered this year. This is Neil Hefti-Winter Song (20th Century Fox 7" 45 RPM 434, Mono, 1963).

  1. Slightly more commercial and less Jazzy than some of Neal's more recognizeable efforts. To my ears, this sounds like a lost Lawrence Welk single from his prime Dot period with Frank Scott on harpshichord! Neal first earned his stripes arranging and playing with Woody Herman's orchestra in the 1940's and went on to arrange such classic singles as the McGuire Sisters #1 1958 hit "Sugartime:" and albums such as Doris Day's Bright and Shiny and Frank Sinatra and Swingin' Brass, plus composing movie scores like Barefoot in the Park. He passed in 2008. Good side! Thanks for sharing.

    1. I was pretty excited to find it. I think the only other Christmas content I have from Neil is a track or two from an Academy Award tribute collection, and it's nothing special.
