Volume Seven-Ten Years On

I know, I know, you'd given up on seeing any more of these installments of For Hi-Fi Living.  But here I am again, with volume 7 on this Memorial Day weekend.  Time flies when you're having fun, and I've had plenty of things to do that were far away from this computer.  Mostly, I've been trying to get as many steps as I can on this Fitbit in hopes that it will break and then I won't have to worry about it again.  But my knee gave out before the Fitbit, so I've been dealing with that, too.  But enough about me, you're here for the music.  And this week we've got more of the same, really easy stuff from 1957, part seven of twelve.  Someday I'll get to all of them, I promise.  Here is Jack Say And His Orchestra-These Foolish Things (RCA Custom RAL-1007, Mono, 1957).

1. Love (Your Spell Is Everywhere)
2. Yearning (Just For You)
3. Oh, How I Miss You Tonight
4. Music, Maestro, Please!
5. When You Wish Upon A Star
6. San Antonio Rose
7. These Foolish Things (Remind Me Of You)
8. Wabash Moon
9. When They Ask About You
10. Lullaby Of The Leaves
11. I'd Climb The Highest Mountain (If I Knew I'd Find You)
12. With A Smile And A Song

  1. I never gave up hope!

Speaking of hope, I hope your knee is OK. I know a good orthopedic guy in Cleveland!

  2. Sorry for the knee. I tore a tendon in my leg/foot/ankle four years ago, and it still gives me fits when least expected, swelling like a balloon. This aging thing is more a battle than I was told...
I appreciate the addition to the Living series. Take care of the knee, young feller.

  4. thank you ernie for volume 7. as i am in the year-long process of making my own favorite holiday hit lists, i promised myself that i wouldn’t listen to anything except christmas music until the next installment of hi-fi living came out. and i can tell you that it sure is nice to hear something different… even jack say. i feel like the musical equivalent of one of those neighbors who leave their outdoor christmas decorations up all year. i’ve been caught whistling “chestnuts roasting…” several times in the elevator at work. (one water-cooler wag calls me ‘the velvet lips’.) i’m beginning to develop a bad attitude. late at night, i think up rude replacement lyrics to otherwise holy songs. i have to keep in mind constantly that all this is being done by choice. i don’t actually have to ponder the right place to put ‘little marcy’s christmas’ (… where the sun don’t shine) or measure the amount of my concern over santa’s meeting with the purple people eater. the real problem is that i am behind. it’s almost june and at this rate i won’t be finished by december. but enough… sorry folks. steam from the cracked pot.

  6. Thx & take care of yourself. Isn't it interesting that we frequently do more damage to ourselves when we attempt to get/stay fit than when we sit on our...chairs.

  7. Thanks for the post! I wish you well with your knee. Had ortho surgery (shoulder replacement)2 weeks ago. Facing a 12-week rehab. Listening to this album, along with the series, will help make the time pass more quickly!

I will check the box below pledging that I'm not a robot. What with a new mechanical shoulder, I wonder.....

  9. Cool! Thanks. I hope your knee heals without complications. I had a tibial plateau fracture in the late nineties - no fun :(

Get well soon and give us the next record when you can. Or not! You've already provided an embarrassment of riches.

One plug in honor of the late, great Chuck Berry - Run Rudolph Run covered by Foghat. To quote an anonymous YouTube commenter, "If that ain't rock and roll then I don't know what is." Play Loud.
