Christmas In July 2023-Part 15

I think this is the first day where none of the tracks are repeats of stuff I've shared out before. I could be wrong about that since my memory isn't what it used to be, but I'm pretty sure about these six. So I hope there's something of interest here for you, as one or more of these will probably show up on the best-of someday.

1. The Newport Youth Band Under The Direction Of Marshall Brown-Cinnamon Kisses
2. Richard Maltby And His Orchestra-Shepherd's Song
3. Silver Burdett Company-Cowboys' Christmas Ball
4. Shorty Rogers-Andre Previn Orchestra-40° Below
5. Charlie Barnet And His Orchestra-Piano Solo: Jack Wilson, Jr.-Muted Trumpet Solo: Conte Candoli-Snowfall
6. Steve Addiss & Bill Crofut-12 Days With Khrushchev

Note that the Shorty rogers-Andre Previn track is from an LP with a Jim Flora cover. Those are hard to find, and people who find them don't usually listen to the music. I was excited to find it at a small thrift store in a small town about 20 miles up the road, then doubly excited to find a song I thought I could share. I like it when that happens.

Christmas In July 2023-Part 14

Two weeks in, everybody still doing all right? Are you keeping up OK? I'd ask if I've lost anybody yet, but I have to assume they aren't here to answer. I hope I'm not shedding visitors already. Christmas In July 2023-Part 12

Good day, and welcome to part 12! All of the tracks in the pile today are spoken word pieces, so if that sort of thing doesn't float your boat, keep on moving. But I hope you'll download this share and give it a listen. It's by far the longest share of the season as a couple of the pieces are long stories. One of them is even a comedy bit, so it's not as bad as you might think. I remember finding that record at a store that didn't have a Christmas section, and the only Christmas records they had were current Record Store Day reissues at $30 a pop. But a few minutes in the bargain bins yielded this track and made me happy. I hope it does the same for you.

1. Tammy Grimes, Music Composed And Conducted By Don Heckman-Little Grey Rabbit's Christmas
2. E.E. Cummings-Santa Claus, Scene Three
3. Carl Sandburg-How Googler And Gaggler, The Two Christmas Babies, Came Home With Monkey Wrenches
4. Joe Bologna, Rudy Dale, Fred Levinson, Robin Lorring, Bobby Alto, John Lollos, Paul Klein, Tony Garafolo, Charlie Grean-A Christmas Carol
5. Dylan Thomas-A Winter's Tale
6. Robert Frost-An Old Man's Winter Night

And yes, the LP said E.E. Cummings. I guess he didn't loose the upper case letters until later on. Also, I paid way too much for the Little Grey Rabbit record, especially once I realized I had shared it out before. But I didn't want to miss out on something good. Enjoy!

Christmas In July 2023-Part 11

This month is just flying by. Flying I tell ya! We're up to day eleven already, and there's no end in sight, which is good, because I've got twenty days left. No real theme today, just some good music for you.

1. Mason Williams-Greensleeves
2. Don McLean-Winter Has Me In Its Grip
3. The Ringing Belles-Rachael Kuivinen, Director-There's A Song In The Air
4. Wini Beatty With Rhett Fink And The Folkniks-Christmas Medley
5. Iroquois Junior Public School Primary & Senior Choirs, Choir Director-Shirley Munroe-Hark, The Herald Angels Sing
6. Jenson Publications-The Twelve Days Of Christmas

How's that playlist look? That Wini Beatty track is worth a little bit of a special mention here. It's a very rare bird in that it comes from a folk album with a right-wing bent, you certainly don't see that every day. Enjoy!

Christmas In July 2023-Part 9

Part 9, in which nothing very special happens, although there is at least one track that I'm sure will make the annual best-of collection. See if you can figure out which one that is.

3. Brian Slawson-Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring
4. Pasadena Roof Orchestra-Savoy Christmas Medley
