The Last Saturday-Part 31

Well, that pretty much concludes our broadcast day. Christmas begins one minute from now, and I'm going to pretty much take the day off from posting. I think there's still an "On This Day" post scheduled to run, but I'm not going to post any new shares. That's assuming I can resist the call of the blog, but it's the plan as of now. Bringing up the rear today are The Yeaworths-Arranged & Conducted By Jack Pleis with The Ballad Of The Christmas Donkey (RCA Victor 7" 45 RPM 47-8480 Not For Sale, Mono, 1964). You know how I love stuff on the RCA label, and I probably should have lumped this in with my stray RCA singles post. But for some reason I didn't so here it is as a single share. Enjoy!

The Last Saturday-Part 30

Getting really late now, I think I saw some reindeer flying overhead. I can remember when I was little and we were out late on Christmas Eve once. I was watching the sky for Santa. Every little star or airplane I saw going by, I thought that just might be Rudolph, until I convinced myself it was unlikely. But maybe... Up next is Mike Thomas with My Christmas Love b/w From Us To You This Christmas (Tin Pan Alley 7" 45 RPM 103-827 (Sarasota, Florida 33578). Mono). I had thought this was a local piece, but I read where Tin Pan Alley is a well-known song-poem label. So I don't know what to think about this. Feel free to leave your informed opinion in the comments after you give it a listen.

The Last Saturday-Part 29

I feel like I've shared some pretty rocking Christmas songs with you today, so let me thrown a little more of that your way. This is Danny Ducharme-Narration By Pat Morgan with The Rockin' Reindeer (Jamies' Christmas Prayer) b/w Christmas Boy (Reo 7" 45 RPM 8441X, Mono, 1959). Good stuff!

The Last Saturday-Part 28

From a line of songs that runs from The Beach Boys' Little Saint Nick through Brian Setzer's Santa Drives A Hot Rod, here is Bobby Farrell with Santa's Big Red Car b/w Heartache Wrapped In Blue (FMC Limited 7" 45 RPM 7186, Stereo, 1971).

MEGA

The Last Saturday-Part 27

Here's a good one from a small circle of red vinyl, George Leger-The Country Cajun with A Snowman For Christmas, back with that eternal plea Let's Put Christ In Christmas Again (Sunset 7" 45 RPM SS 110679 Red Vinyl, Stereo, 1979).

The Last Saturday-Part 26

Continuing on the marathon posting tonight, next up is Holly And The Ivy's, a non-existent band created by Nick Laird-Clowes (of The Dream Academy fame) and enlisting some guitar help from Pink Floyd's own David Gilmour. I don't hear a lot of influence from either group in there, it's kinda just a pastiche of what Stars On 45 were doing at the time and taking to the top of the charts. But it's a big name, so I'm digging it out of the dustbin of history. Here is Christmas On 45 b/w Have Mercy On The Child (No Label (Decca)/Rock Music Co. 7" 45 RPM SANTA 1, Stereo, 1981).

The Last Saturday-Part 25

Getting really late now, how's your Christmas shopping going? I figure it's about time I start, I think the mall is open for a few more minutes, right? This is Clinton Caldwell with Santa's Copter b/w Peace And Joy (Omni 7" 45 RPM O-76-11, Stereo, 1976). Caldwell isn't covering any new ground here, Gene Autry sang about Santa in a whirlybird way back in 1959, followed not too long after by Pat Boone in 1966. Everything old is new again. My copy of the record came with a little one-sheet newspaper that features an ad for this record right on the front. Not sure if that worked because you've never seen or heard of this record, but I threw a scan of the page if you want to read about it. It's called Country Monthly. Enjoy!

The Last Saturday-Part 24

Hmmm, part 24 on the 24th, I should try to make this a good one. Lemme see what I can find in Santa's sack for you. How about a rerun/remaster from Harry Kari And His Six Saki Sippers (AKA Harry Stewart, AKA Yogi Yorgesson), with The Night Before Christmas b/w Oh! Oh! Don't Ever Go (Capitol 7" 45 RPM F2618, Mono, 1953). Yep, that's right, another Christmas single from the same guy who gave you Yingle Bells, only this time he imitates a Japanese accent instead of a Midwestern Swede. Please don't be offended, it's all in good fun. Enjoy!

MEGA

The Last Saturday-Part 23

The eight o'clock hour brings us this single side from The Ping Pongs called I Don't Wanna Wait Till Christmas (G-Note 7" 45 RPM G-100, Mono, 1964). Enjoy!

MEGA

The Last Saturday-Part 22

I hope I have enough shares in the folder to get me through the rest of the evening. I really should have counted these things out before I started posting all willy-nilly. This is Marv Meredith And His Orchestra with Swingin' Sleighbells b/w Teen Sleighride (Strand 7" 45 RPM 25010 Sample Copy Not For Sale, Mono, 1960). Good stuff.

MEGA

The Last Saturday-Part 21

You've probably heard this one a million times, I know I've shared it with you during Christmas in July a couple of times, but what you might not know is that it came with a Christmas flipside, so that's what I'm highlighting here. This is The Fabulous Fay McKay-Accompanied By Frank Brenner with The 12 Daze Of Christmas b/w Those Swingin' Bells (Avi 7" 45 RPM AVI-204, Stereo). And if you want to go really deep, she had a full Christmas CD at one point! Looks like this one is a souvenir to my visit to Ameoba in Hollywood. It was later on in January, so most of the Christmas stuff had been packed away, but I still found a box of Christmas 45s way in the back of the old store and brought home a handful of souvenirs.

The Last Saturday-Part 20

Christmas Eve is just flying by, and the shares are flying out the door. I'm sure you're busy doing other things today, but all this will be here when you get here. This one is Connie Canuso with Somebody Painted Rudolph's Nose A Chocolate Brown b/w Santa Claus And His Sleigh (Applause 7" 45 RPM 8-1246, Mono, 1960). Note that in the song, she actually sings "Someone painted Rudolph's nose...", but the label has the title wrong. There's a correct version of the label out there somewhere, I saw a copy on Discogs, but I don't have it. Also, I think I shared this many, many years ago, at least one side, on a comp I used to make. So if it sounds familiar, that's why. Enjoy!

MEGA

The Last Saturday-Part 19

Another single-sided record here for you on Christmas Eve, this is Johnny Rowland-Christmas Love Song (Alliance 7" 45 RPM AR-008 (Same on both sides), Stereo, 1984). Enjoy!

Christmas Eve Cards

I checked the mail again tonight and found another batch of cards (and a calendar!) from blog visitors. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your holiday to drop a card in the mail for us. We both very much appreciate the time and effort it takes. Thanks so much, and have a great Christmas Eve! (If you want to send us a card, it's not too late! Christmas goes until Epiphany around here, so that's almost two weeks still. Check out the original post for all the important contact details.)

The Last Saturday-Part 18

Up next on our last day before Christmas extravaganza is Roger Kirby with Rockin Reindeer b/w Doc Wallace doing The Ugliest Little Christmas Tree (Ace 7" 45 RPM U-20618M, Stereo, 1987). Some good stuff here, I'm sure you'll get a big kick out of it.

MEGA

The Last Saturday-Part 17

Here's a curious case. The A side of this record is The Roger Nichols Trio with St. Bernie The Sno-Dog, while the B side is the same as the last record I shared with you by The Mark Scott Teens, though they've retitled it as On Xmas Eve (Ava 7" 45 RPM C-178 Promotional Copy Not For Sale, Mono). Not entirely sure what's going on there, but at least the A side is unique. Enjoy!

2022 At 78 RPM-Part 52-Bonus!

It's cold outside, so I'm staying in and sharing more music with y'all. I've got way too many things in the folder that I'm not going to be able to get to on a weekly basis since the year is almost out, so here's a big fat bonus post to kinda get the numbers in line again. Part of the problem is that the Internet Archive, where these recordings originate, just did their December dump a couple days before Christmas, so I was able to download a whole new batch of tracks with only a week or so to get them out. I have managed to get more of them processed than I anticipated, so I figured I should get them to you before Christmas rather than after if at all possible. So if you're still looking for good Christmas music to play tonight while you're waiting for Santa to come, here you go. Or you can grab it after Christmas and wait for next year, it's only going to age a little bit more. I think there are some recordings in here that have already passed the century mark, so another year isn't going to hurt them. Anyhow, hope you're having a great Christmas Eve!
