11-Kiddie Christmas

Christmas is all about the kids, and the music of Christmas is no different. Here is a selection of music and, well, let's call them audio panoramas, that are targeted towards the little ones. But there is still plenty here for adults, too, so don't skip it just out of habit.  There may even be something here that you remember from your childhood. If so, please leave a comment and let me know.  All selections are courtesy of The Internet Archive, as usual this season. Enjoy!

14. Top Hits-The Chipmunk Song

This version of The Chipmunk Song may be the most recent 78 I bring you all season. The Chipmunk's had their hit with it in 1958, and by that point not many people were pressing 78s. Just kiddie record vendors and budget labels trying to squeeze the last bit of life out of their equipment. I guess the sound effects record from last night may be newer, but not by much.

Checking In

Before the next share drops, I just wanted to check in and see if you had a favorite track yet? I know it's still early in the season, but it seems like the days are flying by and Christmas will be here before you know it. I've got a lot of stuff left in the pile to fill the month in, and maybe the entire twelve days of Christmas. Just keep coming around for more goodies, and let me know what songs you like.

Thanks for stopping by!

10-Sleighed

Today I have a little bit of an education for you.  Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride is a Christmas classic these days, covered at least once every five minutes by a new artist, with the arrangement rarely straying from the Boston Pops hit way back in the day. But it wasn't really a Christmas song, it was just a winter song that got caught up in the other parts of the season. And it's far from the only song of the sleigh out there. Here are a bunch of other examples of songs about a sleigh, any one of which could have been the one to catch on with the whole world, but in most cases didn't. You occasionally hear a version of Midnight Sleighride, which is really just a rip from a Prokofiev bit. And at least one of these is just Jingle Bells with a slightly longer name. And just for the sake of completeness, I threw in a record of sound effects, so you can make your own sleigh ride record.  Have at it! As usual, all records were originally digitized by The Internet Archive and their Great 78 Project. They do great work over there.

Presents For Christmas

In a shameless bit of begging, here's a link to my Discogs wantlist. It's chock full of Christmas singles that I've never heard, or even some that I've heard and liked enough to want a hard copy. Lots of records with a single Christmas track, and even a few Christmas albums that I haven't tracked down yet. And a few non-Christmas records that I thought were neat and added to the list.  Maybe you have one of these laying around and want to send it to me...you know...just sayin'...Christmas is coming. :) I need to go through and clean it a bit, some things I may have already found. But I tend to add more stuff to it than I remove, so it's ever-growing.

09-Christmas Blues

Another day, another selection of Christmas 78s from The Internet Archive. A slightly small set today, but a good one as it features all blues records! Well, at least songs that feature Blue in the title. You'll have to decide for yourself how many of these songs are actually blue enough for you. I think you'll enjoy them all anyway, I was very happy to be able to find so many classic old records to share with you.  Enjoy!

08-Ladies Sing Christmas

A nice little selection of Christmas tunes for you today, all with lead vocals sung by female artists. Some people you've heard of before, but I'm sure there are ones here that you're unfamiliar with. Lots of great stuff here, one of my favorite collections so far this year.  Lemme know what your favorite track is down in the comments. I think I have a couple more similar collections coming up, so if you like this one, stay tuned for more! And I know I keep hammering away at this, but I want to make sure you know I'm not taking credit for these shares.  All the raw rips for these records came from The Internet Archive, and their Great 78 Project.  There is so much awesome stuff there, go check them out when you get a chance.
