Memorial Day Weekend-Day 1

I took a bunch of pictures this afternoon down in Englewood on Manasota Key and in Stump Pass Beach State Park, and I fully intended to post a lot of them. But when I saw this one, I figured that it said everything I needed to say. So enjoy!

Oodles of Doodles XIX

Continuing with our theme of musical instruments from last week, we present the trumpet of Mr. Jonah Jones from the back of his LP Hit Me Again! (Capitol T1375). I can't tell you very much about this LP, or the artist. I just liked the trumpet on the back. Sorry...

Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow

You probably didn't remember what EPCOT stood for, did you? I didn't think so. Anyhow, the photo above is an early digital picture of mine from sometime in 1999. I took it at the time because the big 2000 sign over Spaceship Earth was built in part by the company I work for. We were pretty proud that we had a hand in building such a high-profile item. We used it in various flyers, we put up a photo in the lobby, we even gave the boss a crystal model of the sign for Christmas. Since then, we've done hundreds of jobs for the Mouse, but none of them have been as high profile as this one.

Smart-Aleck Geometry

Here's another rare treat that a few of you out there will appreciate. The orange mess above is the front cover from Ernie's Smart Aleck Geometry Comment Notebook. That's quite a mouthful, and if memory serves me correctly, I was quite the handful. I think it was eighth grade, 1984-85, Kathleen Junior High School, Ms. Thoreen's geometry class. Math was pretty easy for me, so I didn't have to pay a lot of attention to what the teacher was talking about to keep up. To amuse myself, I'd come up with clever little comments about whatever she was talking about, then share them with the whole class. Most of the time, they had no idea what I was talking about, but sometimes I was at least marginally funny. But Ms. Thoreen didn't want me interrupting the class, so she gave me this notebook and told me to write down all my wiseacre comments, then share them at a more appropriate time. Boy, did I ever fall for that! I filled page after page after page with goofy drawings and humorous quips. You wouldn't believe what's inside this notebook. Over the course of the year, everyone in the class added their own little bits to my notebook, hence the other names you see scribbled on the cover. But I was the funniest one by far. I'm scared to actually open up this valuable treasure chest, mostly because I doubt if anything inside is half as funny as I remember. But I'll crack it open eventually, and if there is anything truly interesting inside, I'll share it with you.

The Last Full Week Of May

Here's another cool shot of some brightly colored stuff that caught my eye when I was out doing something else entirely. I'd seen plants very similar to this one around, but I'd always seen them in green, never red. So I decided to shoot it and it came out quite well, I thought. I wish I knew the name of this plant. I found it behind the Seabreeze Restaurant on Tampa Bay. The restaurant has been there forever, and it's closed then re-opened several times. I don't know if it's open or not right at the moment to tell you the truth. I believe it sits on property owned by Port Of Tampa, and they want to use it for something other than a restaurant.
