All Day Saturday-Part 25

Here's a surprise post sneaking in just under the wire to truly finish out our all-day Saturday. It's a short one, just one side, but I thought you needed one more little surprise in your day. This is something I've shared out from the LP before during Christmas in July, but this is taken from the actual single. Have a go at Gloria Lynn-On Christmas Day (Everest 7" 45 RPM 2051, Mono, 1964).

All Day Saturday-Part 24

Finally, the last post of this long experiment is hourly sharing. I don't think I'll be doing this again, so I really hope you enjoyed it. Not sure if anyone stayed around for the whole time, but hopefully you will be able to enjoy the 24 shares after the fact. To bring up the rear, here is Rudy Veltri doing The Christmas Window b/w Christmas In The World (Quality (Canada) 7" 45 RPM 1897X, Mono, 1967). No clue who he is, I'm afraid. So many random Christmas singles out there, so much music remains unheard. Until now. Enjoy!

All Day Saturday-Part 23

Almost to the end of a very long day around here, let's see what else is in the pile to share. How about a 45 that repeats something I shared during Christmas At 78 RPM? It's rare to find the same record at two different speeds, even though there was quite a bit of overlap in the format wars. Not sure my 45 sounds any better than the 78 I shared, because it was pretty beat, as are a lot of my records, but it's still listenable. This is Joe Gumin-Jingle Bells (In Six Languages) b/w Auld Lang Syne (King 7" 45 RPM 45-5406 (Reissue of 1947 recordings), Mono, 1960). Enjoy!

All Day Saturday-Part 22

Good and dark outside now, almost time for bed, unless you, like me, have got to stay up posting Christmas music. I've got a little comedy record here that may tickle your memory banks like it did mine. I'm either vaguely remembering seeing it on The Tonight Show when I was a wee child (the performance documented on this single), or maybe it turned up on a Dr. Demento collection later on and I heard it there. It's a cute little bit if you're not familiar with it. This is Mona Abboud-The Pretty Little Dolly b/w I Should Have Left The Light On For Santa (Mona 7" 45 RPM No Number, Stereo, 1980). It's dark, but it's funny.

Christmas On The Radio-Part 2.5

I know the numbering here seems odd, but that's because this is a 7" 45 RPM single instead of a full album share in the series. I didn't think it fair to count this as a full entry. This is a small record that was sent to radio stations that played Christian music as a sort of promotional items for the artists involved. It's an all-star recitation of the Christmas story on one side, and the flip side is filled with Christmas greetings from artists on the label at the time. Only artists on here that I'm familiar with are Deniece Williams and Steven Curtis Chapman, but I'm sure your mileage will vary.  This is The Christmas Story As Told By Sparrow Artists b/w Sparrow Christmas ID's (Sparrow 7" 45 RPM SGL CMAS, 1987, Stereo). Artists include Michael Card, Scott Wesley Brown, Margaret Becker, Steve Camp, Richard Souther, Steven Curtis Chapman, Geoff Moore, Rick Florian, Billy Smiley, Deniece Williams & Steve Green. Enjoy!

All Day Saturday-Part 20

Feels like it's getting late, but I've still got hours to go. Next up is an oddball Christmas tune that seems to be tied in with the resurgence in popularity of Mozart after his biopic in 1984, though this single didn't arrive for a few more years. I don't actually hear much Mozart in the song at all, but I'm not that familiar with his work. If you hear any references in here, please let me know. This is Patrick Stafford-Merry Christmas Amadeus b/w Ave Maria (PSE (Canada) 7" 45 RPM PS-112, Stereo, 1987).

Buy This, Not That

How about a small batch of small records, all with some sort of Christmas advertising on them? There's a real diverse mix of stuff here, but it all comes under the general heading on advertising. First up is a record from your Esso dealer that was just a premium or giveaway at some point. It features some organ & piano tracks that aren't too exciting. Next is some free music with a nice intro from The Route 6 Car Wash. There's little info on the record, but side one is Hugo Winterhalter. I wasn't able to figure out who's music they stole for the B side, but it sounds familiar. Lastly, I've got both sides of an advertisement to buy some advertising. There's a nice jingle about shoes in there if you feel like cutting it out and dropping it somewhere. Enjoy!

2. Barbara M. Lewis, Organ-David Reece, Piano-It Came Upon A Midnight Clear

4. Barbara M. Lewis, Organ-David Reece, Piano-O Come All Ye Faithful

All Day Saturday-Part 18

Five PM and all is well. Hope you didn't have to work today. I didn't, but all this posting is very similar to work. Yes, I'm doing a lot of it ahead of time, but not all of it. Part of the work here is picking what to share next. I've grouped up a lot of these 45 into loose themes, you'll see a lot of those as the season goes on. But there are still a lot of them that just didn't fit anywhere, and that's what I'm using for posts like this. So there's no real rhyme or reason to what I'm posting, I just throw a dart and share where it lands. OK, figuratively that's how it all happens. My computer screen wouldn't last long if I did that too many times in a day. The 45s I've ripped are in four boxes here in the room and I hope not to look at them for a long time after all this effort to get them ripped. Anyhow, the share this hour is Sid Campbell-Teardrops In The Snow b/w Christmas Stocking (K And B 7" 45 RPM CVAR 101, Mono). Again, no idea who this is, or what the story behind the record may be. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

All Day Saturday-Part 17

I'd thought about making this an every-Saturday event, but it's taking so long I don't think that's feasible. I've got plenty of shares I can use, but I may save them for something else. I mean, I'm sure you're loving the volume of stuff, but it's hard for me to keep up. What's next? How about Juanita Miller-Every Day Is Like Christmas b/w Let It Snow, Let It Snow (NRS 7" 45 RPM NRS 558 D.J. Copy Not For Sale, Stereo, 1970). Many of these singles are DJ copies because they never got popular enough to sell stock copies. And the radio stations likely threw most of the copies away making these few remaining ones even rarer. But if nobody wants them, are they really worth anything?

2022 At 78 RPM-Part 48

Good afternoon, and welcome back to Christmas at 78 RPM! For those of you who are just joining us for the holiday season, this series goes all the way back to the first day of 2022, and has been featured each and every week since, though I think one of them was late because I was in the hospital after a (very mild) heart attack. But I was soon back at it, and I've kept it up every week since then. All of the 78 RPM rips come to us courtesy of The Internet Archive and their Great 78 Project. I just find 'em, download 'em, clean 'em up a bit, then share them back with you. You'll see a lot of great songs here in the pile, a mix of old favorites and unfamiliar tracks that you'll come to love just as much as the oldies. I've discovered some wonderful stuff all along, and this week is no different. What is different is that I finally learned how to export a tracklist that I can post, so you can search for your favorites instead of just looking at the pretty label scans. Have a look, and enjoy!
