Christmas On The Radio-Part 2.5

I know the numbering here seems odd, but that's because this is a 7" 45 RPM single instead of a full album share in the series. I didn't think it fair to count this as a full entry. This is a small record that was sent to radio stations that played Christian music as a sort of promotional items for the artists involved. It's an all-star recitation of the Christmas story on one side, and the flip side is filled with Christmas greetings from artists on the label at the time. Only artists on here that I'm familiar with are Deniece Williams and Steven Curtis Chapman, but I'm sure your mileage will vary.  This is The Christmas Story As Told By Sparrow Artists b/w Sparrow Christmas ID's (Sparrow 7" 45 RPM SGL CMAS, 1987, Stereo). Artists include Michael Card, Scott Wesley Brown, Margaret Becker, Steve Camp, Richard Souther, Steven Curtis Chapman, Geoff Moore, Rick Florian, Billy Smiley, Deniece Williams & Steve Green. Enjoy!

  1. Very nice collection! I am totally surprised at how young Margaret Becker and Steven Curtis Chapman sound on this record! Of course, this was 1987, so they were still new artists at the time. They probably released this record around the time that the label put out their all-star Christmas album in 1987, of which some highlights include the all-star cut "Home For the Holidays", White Heart's "Little Drummer Boy", SCC's "Away in a Manger", Margaret Becker's O Come O Come Emmanuel, and BeBe & CeCe's Silent Night, plus a rockin' version of Jingle Bell Rock from Geoff Moore.

The ID's were recorded so that the Christian radio stations who were playing their music could put on a Christmas "message" before they played a song from that particular artist. As a fan of most of these artists, it is a real find. Thanks!

PS: the singer singing "Birthday of a King" is Steve Green.
