Hi Ernie, I was in Junior High, when this album was given to my family. Being that I grew up around knowing these artists, and more as an adult... I believe this was a "Promo" - Word Records Canada (I grew up in Alberta, Canada) used to put out a quarterly promo cassette/cd (Promoting the artist and or their album) until sometime in the 2000s... a person could purchase for a cheap price. This was probably something like that. The last 5 tracks remind me of the Lundstrom Family style of Christmas records... probably recorded in the studio. Thank you for all your hard work :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memory, I'm glad someone found it that had some connection to it. :)
DeleteErnie, you're welcome. I am so appreciative for all the music you have shared, over the years :)
DeleteThanks for reviving and posting this record! Lee posted it over at his blog a few years ago, however I am pretty sure that his original post got deleted as part of his Workupload trouble earlier this fall. There are several cuts on this from some of my favorite CCM artists. Will listen to this when I have the time.
ReplyDeleteDid he? I didn't remember that. I try not to rip off too much of the stuff others have shared, at least not too soon. I've made enemies for sharing stereo versions of other people's mono shares, and some folks just don't take too kindly to my trying to help. I guess I can see why, but if I have something that's a little better... Hopefully he'll stop by and say something.
DeleteHere's Lee's original post (and yes, this link does not work anymore!):

Around 10 years ago, I had originally converted my album to mp3, but I downloaded the album. I must have downloaded from Lee, but I can't remember. Ernie, I personally couldn't tell any difference of sound... When I listened to both yours and one on my iTunes... so I kept what I already had, and deleted yours. musicman1979, you and I might like similar music. I love CCM and Southern Gospel music.
DeleteI'm not an audiophile by any definition, so my rips are unlikely to ever be the best. But I think they're OK. :) I gotta try harder and dig deeper to find unique stuff...
DeleteI like a little Southern Gospel, but not much. I am primarily more of a CCM fan in addition to Big Band and '40's '50's and '60's Pop/Rock stuff.
DeleteVery excited about this! I know all of these artists. I probably saw most of them at church in the '70s.
ReplyDeleteThey were very popular in their day,. Enjoy!
DeleteQuite a surprise to hear the Imperials sing their song Acapella! It stays in the kind of traditional Inspirational Pop sound they would apply to their Christmas with the Imperials album from the Russ Taff era of the group. Lineup of the group at the time this was made included Armond Morales, Sherman Andrus, Terry Blackwood, and Jim Murray.
ReplyDeleteI ripped an Imperials Christmas LP this year, but I suspect it's not obscure enough to share here. Good stuff though.
DeleteProbably one of the more up-tempo versions of "O Holy Night", also one of the few recordings that have genuine Country music flavorings on it. Buck, Dottie, and their daughter Reba do a great job vocally on this cut. The horn section is a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteNice selection from the Downings. Has some period Pop sounds on it, yet it is very good.
ReplyDeleteErnie,
ReplyDeleteIn 1970, Heartwarming/Impact released (to radio) an album of Christmas greetings, from such artists as The Singing Deweys (sp), The Oak Ridge Boys, The Rambos (sp), Henry And Hazel Slaughter, The Downings and The Speer Family, even including some of their families, who (as far as I know) didn't sing with them at the time. The greetings were over a small choir (presumably them as a whole) singing traditional Christmas carols, such as Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem and Go Tell It On The Mountain. Do you happen to have this one? I had it as a kid, given to me in a stack of Viat Nam-era twelve-inch transcriptions and such. Enjoy, praying for y'all.
