Songs Of The Season X 4
I've been putting this one off for a while now, because it's such a pain to explain. Basically, it's a one record that comes in at least four different versions, and I've managed to collection all four of them! I'm only going to post the cover once because they all look the same. Only a close inspection of the back side of the album or the labels would give away the secret that they aren't all the same record. Each record features ten different artists giving you a holiday greeting (all from just a few different scripts) followed by a song. Sometimes the person doing the introduction isn't the one who performs the song, I guess the artist wasn't available or something. But it's usually an artist and their art. There is some overlap from one record to the next, but not too much, and they all have some unique content. This sort of thing is right up my alley, so I hope it's up yours as well. These are Songs For The Season (Narwood Productions For The US Army Reserve, Stereo). If these look familiar, I think I shared them all out one at a time back in 2016 (1, 2, 3, 4).

Now, the million dollar question, are there any more in this series? I haven't seen any, but that doesn't mean much. Anybody seen another one? I didn't find these all together, by the way. I found them one at a time, and I kept thinking this cover looks familiar...

I've never seen any of these. Nice stuff.
ReplyDeleteThank you Thank you! Thank you! I lost these. I love this kind of Christmas record.
ReplyDeleteHi Ernie, I just listen to the 1st one of these. It really is a nice collection.
ReplyDeleteStrange that Mel Torme did not sing his own song. His version is really nice. But, maybe he had not recorded it when this album came out. His version that I am thinking of came out some years later. Of course, Nat had the big hit.
When I think of Mel, I never knew he was a singer, but of the guy wanting to send Betty of Fathers Knows Best to Mexico, I guess as a white slave girl, and his nastiness to her sister played by poor old Mamie Van Doren. Poor Mamie goes off to Girls Town, and the girls are serenaded by Paul Anka, before he got a nose job.
I believe Torme had recorded his song for Verve at that time, and they probably couldn't get Verve to pony it up for free to put it on this collection. And Nat was the huge hit so I'm sure the Army was excited to get that track on there.
DeleteNot sure what movie you're talking about, but sounds like something I need to see!
"Girls Town". It is available on YouTube.
ReplyDeletePual Anka even wrote a sexy song, Hey Mama, that Mamie sings in the shower. The censors had it deleted. It too is on YouTube.
Sexy, you have to be kidding, but it was in 1959, so...
Mels version appears on the 4th installment. Very laid back I guess you would call it.
Yeah, I found it with a Google search, I'll have to give it a watch, the reviews were interesting. Looks like there was an MST3K version of it as well, that should be a hoot.

DeleteDo not go there.
I saw the original on TV as a kid. I loved every trashy minute of it. I wanted to see it again, and the only YouTube version was the MSTJK send up or whatever they are called. Never again.
If you want trash, view the original first.
Good point, but I used to love MST3K!
