EP Day, Part 8

Mitch Miller and Christmas just seem to go together, especially to people who can remember seeing him on TV in the sixties. I never saw him, but I've seen enough copies of his two Christmas albums to last me a lifetime. But back in 2006 I dug up this single that features a song that wasn't on either of those albums. So you know you'll want to downloadMitch Miller & The Gang-Be A Santa (Columbia 4-42240, 7" 45 rpm, Mono, 1961).

  1. I was one of the people who saw Mitch regularly on TV. You didn't miss a thing.

Twenty years ago this week I was trapped in a windowless hotel conference room in Orlando working day and night on a urgent business matter - the piped-in music system played "Must Be Santa" over and over, along with about 10 other Christmas chestnuts.

"Who comes around on a special night? Santa comes around on a special night!" Special night indeed. It was a special night when I finally got outta there.

  2. I grew up listening to the Mitch Miller album that included Must Be Santa- it was played millions of times during the Christmas season- actually it was the only Christmas record we had. Anyway, Must Be Santa is burned into my brain because of that strange-voiced child (?)that sings a little off from the rest of the Gang. The rest of the album is actually pretty awesome!
