Viva Ancora Italia!
Here's another album of Italian Christmas music, much more traditional than that last one. It's a US release of stuff that I'm pretty sure was recorded in Italy, but I don't have all the details. I believe it's part of a series of international releases by this Fiesta label. I had a German Christmas entry in the same series, but I didn't manage to get it chapped into tracks and prepped for sharing this season. Maybe next year. It's nice music and will certainly remind you of that last time you spent Christmas in a small village overlooking Lake Como in the foothills of the Alps. OK, I've never done that either, but you can dream. This is Buon Natale-Italian Christmas Songs (Fiesta FLP 1389, Mono). Two different covers for this one in the download. Looks like one was the standard mono release, the other was in fake stereo. Pretty sure I ripped the original mono copy for you.

I love this - so great! Thank you, Ernie!
ReplyDeleteI had a German one ripped, too, in this same series, but never cut it into tracks. I read on Discogs that the tracks on the vinyl didn't match the label, so I just kept jumping past it rather than try to figure it out. :(
DeleteI was going to say that I didn't recall Brahms writing something called "Ninni Nanna," but then I looked that term up and it means "lullaby," and he did write one of those!
ReplyDeleteLearn something new every day! I always wonder how do you decide what to translate and what not to translate. Brahms probably called it something in German, which they translated to Italian, but then it didn't get translated to English. I suppose that's always a problem when you move things across languages.
DeleteYeah, that, he did and it seems to still a very popular piece, sung to kids all over the world. Did he write the words, too? 'Til next, love and praying for y'all.

But is it a Christmas song? I'm not convinced.
DeleteIn German, Wiegenlied (I think).
