10-11
Getting late here, I don't know how much longer I can keep this up. There are only so many ten inch records in the world, and only a small fraction of those are Christmas related. (If you really dig the 10" format, be sure to check out my buddy Buster's blog. He named his blog after the 10 inchers, but he's strayed from his roots and often shares out all different size records from 7" to 16", and everything in between. Tell him Ernie sent you!) But before you go over there, I've got another record for you to download. It may only be ten inches in diameter, but it still packs a big punch. It's another budget release, but listening to it really makes me think I'm in the mid-fifties enjoying a Christmas with my wife, our two-and-a-half children and a dog and a cat that that somewhat tolerate each other. This is another one I hope to find time to dive into the history of later this season with a couple different 12" versions and different covers. It's a convoluted story, believe me. Until then, this is When Christmas Comes To Our House (Waldorf Music Hall 10" 33 RPM MH 33-140, Mono, 1955). Looks like I had a couple different versions of this one as well, it's all in the download for you to explore.

Hmmm...I can't play this one with Windows Media Player or one other media player, but one called "DVD and Blu-Ray PLUS" will play it. The other downloads I've grabbed this year have all played with Windows. Strange...
ReplyDeleteThe sound quality is really good and it does sound like a '50s flashback.
SCTV did a bit more than 40 years ago about a family with "2-1/2 children" where they cut the left half off a kid for the bit. I think the late Joe Flaherty played the father.
