Father Figure

The last record was by a brother so it's sort of fitting that this next record is from a father. (Will I be able to pull out a sister and mother next? I don't think so, but maybe.) This time it's less piano and more folky, but still a nice collection of tunes. Father Martin seems to have released a couple other records according to Discogs (though they don't mention this one, is that a theme this year?) so this is not a one-off. He must have had a bit of a following to have released more than one record. This one will go about one third of the way to giving you his complete discography, so you'd better download it. This is Father Joseph Martin-The Joy Of Christmas (Sön-Deane Records SD-122577, Stereo).

1. Mary, Mary
2. Mary's Boy Child
3. O Holy Night
4. Silent Night

6. Ave Maria
7. I Wonder As I Wander
8. O Sanctissima
9. What Child Is This
10. Medley: I'll Be Home For Christmas; White Christmas; Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
11. The Christmas Song

  1. This album has an excellent sound to it: simple and effective - great stuff. Sön-Deane Records seems very eclectic, with folk, religious, soul, and funk offerings - Thanks for this!

  2. Well Ernie, I guess I am in the minority with this one. I am sorry to be so mean with this one. One of my clients sent me to IKEA to buy things for a Christmas party. I started playing this album, while pleasent, I thought it was recorded at a slower speed. The songs just kept going on and on to my ears. I then realised, his voice is only passable. So sing slow, it masks the qualities of the voice. Anyway, the lady behind me had to nudge me twice to move ahead. This album is a real snooze fest. On the other hand, I would have hated being in his parish. He probably put the parishioners to sleep with his sermons.
