Fröhliche Weihnacht Überall
I believe this is the last of the records I received from a donor in the middle of the year. Well, actually, that's not true. He gave me one more, but try as I might, I could not get a good rip from it. I tried six ways to Sunday to get all the tracks on that thing to play through, but I just could not get it to work. I can usually do any number of tricks to get a scratched or defective record to play, but this one was just beyond me. Shame, too, because it was a really good record that I don't have, which is pretty rare. I didn't have this one, either, I don't think, but I don't know that it's something I would otherwise pay too much attention to. But you never know, I'll record pretty much anything when my pile gets low. So maybe this will be right up your alley. If so, please give a listen to Günter Noris-Fröhliche Weihnacht Überall (Ariola (Germany) 26 178 IT, Stereo, 1978). Don't get me wrong, it's certainly not a bad record, but the German language just sounds, well, non-Christmassy. I guess this one is amostly instrumental so maybe that doesn't apply. It's pretty good versions if you like those syrupy strings.

I am just now beginning to discover classic German Pop music, so this should be a fascinating listen. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh, you're in for an education! :)
DeleteLOL! Just discovering artists such as Gaby Baginksy and Gitte Haenning in addition to continental favorites like Caterina Valente and Bert Kaempfert.

ReplyDeleteHi Ernie,
ReplyDeleteThere are some good dance tracks on this album, numbers 1, 3, 7, and 9. Biergarten und Weihnachtsmarkt, wer kommt mit? Beer garden and Christmas market, who's coming with me? Glühwien jemand - mulled wine anyone. Pity, I cannot drink alcohol.
Very nice album from a German institution.
My friend from Köln is visiting tonight so we immediately put this on. The problem is, we had to tone things down as it is past 10 pm here in Berlin, the quite time.
