Super Saturday, Armed Forces Version 8
More of the same theme here that we've established with our last few records (though I think this is the last of the series). The big name here is Rosemary Clooney and the flip side is filled with a live show at the Grand Ole Opry. You don't get much more country than that. Again I'm presenting this as a couple of side-long radio shows, I'm too lazy to cut these into tracks. This is Two Sides Of Christmas (The Directorate Of Advertising, HQ USAF Recruiting Service, No Number, Stereo, 1974). This is another share that goes back to 2007. I must have really been on a roll that year.
1. Rosemary Clooney, The Falconaires And The Jack Halloran Choir-It's Christmas
2. Archie Campbell, Dottie West, Charlie McCoy And The Jordanaires-Christmas At Opryland
2. Archie Campbell, Dottie West, Charlie McCoy And The Jordanaires-Christmas At Opryland

Great stuff! But why didn't Archie Campbell bring along Buck Owens, Roy Clark and Junior Samples?
ReplyDeleteI wish... He did have a Christmas single at one point though. I think I have one side of it somewhere, but I've never seen the actual record. Something for my Hee Haw Christmas collection I plan to do one day. :)
DeleteOnly gotten a couple of these, thus far, but a lot of these seem to be polar opposites, each record's two sides, that is. Reckon they were gong for variety, since, as you said, the stations played a little of everything. I do appreciate the Gospel side, got it and haven't listened to it or any of the others, yet, but will put them on the Yitwow (however ya spell it), as always. Thanks, love and praying for y'all.

I'm sure they just sent them out to stations wily-nilly without paying too much attention to the format of the station. Hopefully they could fit something into their format, or squeeze it into their dead time when no one was listening anyway.
DeleteLOL, roger on that. I believe most stations, even in the mid-'70s, were still block-formatted, so there were places for said programs, even if they were just fifteen-minute fillers. FM hadn't really caught on, just quite yet, so Ancient Modulation was still king, as apposed to Funny Modulation. Thanks, love and praying for y'all.

And then there's your Sunday morning dead time. I suspect these counted as public affairs programming.
DeleteYeah, I thought about that, too, but most Public Affairs-type programming I know, is IMHO more along the lines of interviews with local office holders and the like, but it is possible. Re: Sunday morning, or any time, for that matter, you treat a preacher right, he'll stay with you forever, or rather, until the LORD comes back. 'Til next, love and praying for y'all.

I downloaded this album once from somewhere. It was cut into tracks and one or more of the tracks I kept had skips. I'll pass on the other side. No country music. I can't hang with the twang.
