Hanger On

I don't want to tell you too much about this one, I want you to be surprised by what you hear. And besides, there's a pigeon or two on the cover, who wouldn't want to listen to a Christmas record with a pigeon on the cover for no apparent reason. Maybe I will say there should be a cow on the cover because, you know, cows go Moo! You won't regret it, I promise. This is The Howard Hanger Jazz Fantasy-Christmas (No Label, No Number, Stereo, 1983).

1. O Come, O Come Immanuel
2. Coventry Carol
3. Star Song
4. Unto Us A Child Is Born
5. Break Forth, O Beauteous Heavenly Light
6. Mary's Song
7. Sweet Little Jesus Boy
8. The Friendly Beasts
9. What Child Is This

    2. I did Ernie! First play of the day. Track 2 (Coventry Carol) really brang the Lord Summerisle vibes and then the Friendly Beasts, I was getting some hints of Velvet Underground with a dash of hmmm, hard to pinpoint. I guess that was pure "jazz fantasy" right there. -Organ

  2. Don’t call them pigeons, call them doves. You’ll feel better about it.

    1. We have doves here, they don't look like pigeons. Well, I guess they're close, but they are not the same thing.

    1. It's the pigeons, that's why you want to listen isn't it?

  4. Just gave a listen- very different than expected, but solid sound . Friendly Beasts is cool. I can get the Leonard Cohen comparison on that one. Howard Hanger sounds like a very interesting, good human. Thanks for sharing this!

  5. "For Unto Us A Child Is Born" has "early Manheim Steamroller" energy!

    1. Is that a good thing? I remember liking MS when they were still new to the Christmas game. It was only later when they turned into some sort of Christmas music machine that I gave up on them.
