Another Hard-To-Spell Name
Really early in the morning, so time for another religious record. This time we're visiting the Shenandoah Valley, a region I'm only familiar with because of the song my dad used to sing when he was in a barbershop choir. Not sure what the relation between this artist and Shenandoah is, but he's put the name right there on the cover so there has to be some link. For your listening pleasure, this is Ed Lyman-A Shenandoah Christmas With Ed Lyman (Forge Records 5104-17, Stereo). Looks like this is a portion of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. Probably a nice place to visit.

It says on his Discogs page that he often worked with a ventriloquist - now there's a missed opportunity for a Christmas album!
ReplyDeleteOne can only imagine...
DeleteThis is a great place to visit- Beatiful National Park with the scenic Skyline Drive! Alaska, Italy, now Virginia: A very well travelled record collection you have there
ReplyDeleteI try to get around. Santa Fe at Christmas, don't forget. :)
DeleteJust curious, the song to which you are referring, the one your dad sang, was it The Shenandoah Waltz? Heard it as a kid (although not new then) by Clyde Moody and his Carolina Wood Choppers, on a local paint burner Country station, which had a classics show on Saturday nights. 'Til next, love and praying for y'all.

I don't think so. I feel like it was in one of those big Technicolor widescreen Western epics that were more spectacle than show, but the name is escaping my now. Lyrics include something like "I'm bound away, across the wide Missouri". More will come to me if I think about it a bit...

DeleteOh yeah, forgot about that one. Don't believe I've ever been there, but my daddy and stepmomma have a timeshare there. 'Til next, love and praying for y'all.
