10-9

As I promised in the previous post, here's a 10" record that features more of the tracks that featured on the B-side of that last record. And if time allows, I will feature a 12" version of this record and the many copy-cat versions that have some out over the years. I really hope I have time to get to that, it's an interesting story and a lot of interconnected records. In the meantime, this is Godfrey Malcolm & Fredrico-Chimes At Christmas Time (Waldorf Music Hall 10" 33 RPM MH 33-128, Mono, 1955), Fredrico appears to be Terry Snyder and Godfrey Malcolm is Dick Hyman according to Discogs. That makes sense, they were tied into the whole Enoch Light record empire for pretty much record label he ever associated with. Not sure why they hid behind a couple of odd pseudonyms for this one though. Too late to hazard a guess at this late date, though I think Dick Hyman is still around and actually living not that far from me. Never run into him though. Couple slightly different covers for this, though I think the bigger differences were on the flipside. It's all in the download for you.

1. Silent Night
2. O Come All Ye Faithful
3. Joy To The World
4. God Rest You Merry Gentlemen
5. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
6. It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
7. O Little Town Of Bethlehem
8. Good King Wenceslas
9. The First Nowell
10. Deck The Hall

Update-11 Dec 25-I copied the track titles straight from the labels, and sure enough, they were wrong. I think I've got everything fixed in the new download, but give it a listen and let me know if anything else feels off.

  1. So Godfrey Arthur or whatever his name is, was actually Dick Hyman? Amazing.

These tracks did get around, didn't they?

    1. So they say. I'll try to pick apart the various iterations of this record later in the season, but I keep second guessing my own conclusions. Who knows what the truth is with these tracks.

  2. Another unexpected appearance by Dick Hyman? And with Terry Snyder to boot? Nice! Too bad I already know this won't even come close to the space age magic these two created just a handful of years later...

    1. I'll give them a listen and see what I can straighten out. Thanks for mentioning it. I'll try to get an updated post up later.

    2. Should be better now, give it a listen and see if it's better. I'm sure I just copied the titles from the label and in typical budget label fashion, they are wrong. :(
