10-10
Continuing on in the 10" record parade that is today, this is probably my favorite one of them all. Been keeping an eye for this one for a long time now, and I think I found it the same time as that earlier 10" record in the plain sleeve. Like I said that was a good say. This is Freddy Martin And His Orchestra-Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite In Dance Tempo (RCA Victor 10" 33 RPM LPM 3052, Mono, 1952). There are lots of unique versions of The Nutcracker out there, and while this is not the best (Spike Jones, anyone?), it is certainly one of the better takes on the suite. Download it and see for yourself!

I usually hate pop versions of classical material, but I will make an exception for Freddy, what with this being a 10-inch record and all. Also, love that caricature of him!
ReplyDeleteIt's surprising that neither of us came across this record before.
Good records are hard to find. You don't have a copy? Seems like the sort of thing you'd have tucked away somewhere in that collection. :)
DeleteI probably ignored it because of my prejudice against pop versions of classical pieces. Pure snobbery.
ReplyDeleteI think this was posted out of order, I must have put the wrong time on it. 10-10 should come until pretty late in the day. :(
DeleteBased on the cover alone, I can tell I'm going to enjoy this one.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's a good 'un!
DeleteThis post was supposed to go up at 8 pm, not 8 am. I moved it so the order of these 10" posts would be correct. Sorry if that threw anyone off.
ReplyDeleteUnlike Buster, I enjoy dance-pop versions of classical pieces (especially the Nutcracker suite) so I'm looking forward to this. Thanks, Ernie!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I enjoy such things as well, but Buster is still OK in my book. :)
DeleteThanks, bud - I like you too. petlod's avatar looks suspicious, though.
DeleteYeah, slightly suspicious...
DeleteAnd Buster is definitely okay in my book too! Very much enjoy your postings here and on your own blog, sir! (And your avatar as well. Big BK fan!)
petlod - You're so nice, I'll overlook the suspicious avatar.
Deletei think this album charted in its time.
ReplyDeletedownloaded three times but and folder says it is there but is never found to play. other downloads are found and play.
DeleteI wouldn't be surprised if this charted, but it's still hard to find these days.
DeleteNot sure why your downloads aren't working. Are you extracting it from the ZIP file?
yes, says the file has been extracted but does not become the 2nd Freddy martin album to play.
DeleteThat's really weird. No one else has reported any issues with it. You might try the download again, maybe MEGA was having a bad day when you tried it last.
DeleteThis is a great surprise from someone who only knows of Freddy's version of the "Merry Christmas Polka"! Will most likely be checking this one out when I have the time.
ReplyDeleteWe're running out of days, hope you can find the time for this one and a couple of others around here. :)
DeleteWhen I posted this way back when, I got hardly any response. You get 19 comments. It's the difference between "when Lee posts" and "when Ernie posts."
