Philly
I don't think we had a chance to visit Philadelphia between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I'm going to throw this in here before we miss New Year's too. A Ceremony Of Carols is not something I share out around here often, but it's as much a piece of the Christmas cannon as any other piece of music I feature frequently. Just because it's not pop music doesn't make it bad. Here's an excellent version sung by a choir from Philly, mostly the female members of the choir, if memory serves. This is Philadelphia Oratorio Choir-A Ceremony Of Carols (Rittenhouse Records RM-1001, Mono, 1961). Enjoy! Love that paper art piece on the front, don't you?

Nice record - Britten's work is one of the greatest pieces of Christmas classical music.
ReplyDeleteBuster, do you have a favorite recording of the Britten work?
DeletePaper curling art, known as Quilling, is the craft of rolling, shaping, and gluing strips of paper to create decorative designs, forming coils and shapes like teardrops or petals, which are then arranged into intricate pictures or patterns for cards, wall art, and more.
ReplyDeleteThe cover art is quite lovely. Too bad that type of crafting is not seen much these days.
