Millions and Millions

Here's an interesting European collection of Christmas songs that I thought featured a few things you don't hear too often. I don't know who many of these names are, but I found it odd that the American tracks they chose were by The Platters and Harry Simeone. Not even the hit your might expect from Harry Simeone, either. There's bound to be something on here that your haven't heard before, and I bet you really enjoy it. Give a listen to Christmas For The Millions (Philips (Netherlands) 6300 233, Stereo, 1977).

1. Nana Mouskouri-Silent Night, Holy Night
2. Peters & Lee-Mary's Boy Child
3. Paul Mauriat & His Orchestra-Il Est Né Le Devin Enfant
4. Marianne Rosenberg-Aba Heidschi Bum-Beidschi
5. Los Fronterizos-La Peregrinacion (Alouette) (Huella Pampeana)
6. The Harry Simeone Chorale-Sleigh Ride
7. Kamahl-White Christmas
8. Vicky Leandros-Es Wird Schon Gleich Dunkel
9. Trio Los Paraguayos-Faltan Cinco Palas Doce
10. Kay Warner's Choir And Orchestra-The First Noël; We Wish You A Merry Christmas
11. The Platters-Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer
12. Demis Roussos-Les Anges Dans Nos Campagnes (Gloria In Excelsis Deo)

  1. Fascinating collection! Some of these songs may be previously released. Kind of unique to find the Platters and the Harry Simeone Chorale, a Mercury artist, on a Phillips album. However, Mercury manufactured and distributed the US Phillips label, so it kind was all in the same corporate label family.

    1. I kinda think they were all older tracks, but I could be wrong. Didn't think there was anything unique here. Interesting mix of stuff though.

  2. The Harry Simeone "Sleigh Ride" comes from his "The Wonderful Songs Of Christmas" album. The whole album is a personal fave of mine.

    1. What did Someone do, like three full Christmas records?

    2. At least three, possibly as many as five. Lot of repeats though.

    3. Sounds about right. I can think of four, but like you said, lots of repeats and rerecordings.

    4. Hey, I didn't post anonymously! I used my fake name, just like always. Where did it go??

    5. Dunno. Nothing in the Spam folder. What did you say?

    6. I meant where did my fake name go to get replaced by "Anonymous".

The comment about the source of the Simeone "Sleigh Ride" was mine, not some anonymous slob. I'm still kind of a slob, but I'm sure I used my handle, as I always do.

  3. That set of performers is going to be pure nostalgia fuel for people of a certain age.
