Philly

I don't think we had a chance to visit Philadelphia between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I'm going to throw this in here before we miss New Year's too. A Ceremony Of Carols is not something I share out around here often, but it's as much a piece of the Christmas cannon as any other piece of music I feature frequently. Just because it's not pop music doesn't make it bad. Here's an excellent version sung by a choir from Philly, mostly the female members of the choir, if memory serves. This is Philadelphia Oratorio Choir-A Ceremony Of Carols (Rittenhouse Records RM-1001, Mono, 1961). Enjoy! Love that paper art piece on the front, don't you?

  1. Nice record - Britten's work is one of the greatest pieces of Christmas classical music.
