A Sacrifice
Here's a weird one for you. I didn't even realize this was a Christmas record on first glance. But once I took a longer look, I realized what I had. It's not every day you find a rock opera about the birth of Jesus, but here you go. There are a few guest singers on the album, biggest name that stood out to me was Bonnie Bramlett, known for her work with Eric Clapton back in the day. This is of course much later than that, but it's still a very interesting listen. This is Adrian Snell-The Virgin-A Dramatic Rock Opera (Pilgrim America R3822, Stereo, 1982). Enjoy!

You had me at weird one!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back!
DeleteA weird but rather interesting one. As a Christian Brit, I recognise several of the names on the album, including Paul Field (a well known song writer in Christian circles on both sides of the pond) and Joe English (who played drums in Wings and toured with bands like Petra).
ReplyDeleteAnd if you want some new Christmas rock (well metal), then this year's Xmas album by Stryper (who are still going strong) is great stuff!
I have the old Stryper Christmas 12" somewhere...
DeleteHi Ernie,
ReplyDeleteI do not know if I should call this album sacrilegious or not. It is just not conservative Christian teaching to me. While we, as a school church choir of 5th-8th graders, performed folk music, it was more in line with Christian faith, whether the songs were religious or secular, they were songs of love and up-lifting.
This album, I gave up on after the 5th track. I just could not relate to it at all.
But to each his own. I cannot imagine it sold a lot of copies. Well at least one, because you found one in a second hand shop.
People keep trying to modernize things that probably don't need modernizing. For instance, this record and the two versions of Handel's Messiah earlier in the season. Gotta leave some things alone.
