Fröhliche Weihnacht Überall

I believe this is the last of the records I received from a donor in the middle of the year. Well, actually, that's not true. He gave me one more, but try as I might, I could not get a good rip from it. I tried six ways to Sunday to get all the tracks on that thing to play through, but I just could not get it to work. I can usually do any number of tricks to get a scratched or defective record to play, but this one was just beyond me. Shame, too, because it was a really good record that I don't have, which is pretty rare. I didn't have this one, either, I don't think, but I don't know that it's something I would otherwise pay too much attention to. But you never know, I'll record pretty much anything when my pile gets low. So maybe this will be right up your alley. If so, please give a listen to Günter Noris-Fröhliche Weihnacht Überall (Ariola (Germany) 26 178 IT, Stereo, 1978). Don't get me wrong, it's certainly not a bad record, but the German language just sounds, well, non-Christmassy. I guess this one is amostly instrumental so maybe that doesn't apply. It's pretty good versions if you like those syrupy strings.

1. Petersburger Schlittenfahrt
2. Oh Du Fröhliche
3. Eine Muh, Eine Mäh; Morgen Kommt Der Weihnachtsmann; Hei, So Eine Schneeballschlacht
4. Weisser Winterwald
5. Leise Rieselt Der Schnee; Am Weihnachtsbaume Die Lichter Brennen; Süsser Die Glocken Nie Klingen
6. Weihnachten Daheim
7. Jingle Bells; Fröhliche Weihnacht Überall; Oh Tannenbaum
8. Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht
9. Lasst Uns Froh Und Munter Sein; Kling' Glöckchen Klingelingeling; Ihr Kinderlein Kommet
10. White Christmas
11. The Little Drummerboy
12. Silvester-Song (Auld Lang Syne)

  1. I am just now beginning to discover classic German Pop music, so this should be a fascinating listen. Thanks for sharing.

    2. LOL! Just discovering artists such as Gaby Baginksy and Gitte Haenning in addition to continental favorites like Caterina Valente and Bert Kaempfert.

    3. I'm thinking more along the lines of Heino and Heintje. :)

    4. Heino, yes, it has been awhile, but I woud see his concert posters at the U-Bahn stations in the past.
Heintje, do not get me started. Nothing is wrong with him, he is very talented, but whem I was a young choir boy soprano, my mother had this 8-track tape of him and insisted on playing it on an old 8-track player my father took out of one of their cars. Catchy at first, but once was enough. But we all have different tastes.
I do like Bert Kaempfert and James Last a lot as they are mostly instrumental artists. Well at least the tracks I like best.

    5. I have lots of old German pop records, including Heino. There are Freddy Christmas records, I do believe; maybe they have appeared here.

  2. Hi Ernie,
There are some good dance tracks on this album, numbers 1, 3, 7, and 9. Biergarten und Weihnachtsmarkt, wer kommt mit? Beer garden and Christmas market, who's coming with me? Glühwien jemand - mulled wine anyone. Pity, I cannot drink alcohol.
Very nice album from a German institution.
My friend from Köln is visiting tonight so we immediately put this on. The problem is, we had to tone things down as it is past 10 pm here in Berlin, the quite time.

  4. My Christmas prayer, (eh-hem!) Dear Baby-Jesus, I hope that there will be Christmas polkas in the very near future. I promise I will be on my best behavior and not dale all the horseradish. Your pal, -Organ

    1. I don't think i have any polka this year, at least none I can think of at the moment. Maybe I'm wrong...

    2. Hi Anonymous,
You can search Ernies blog for Christmas Polkas. 2 links and 1 re-uped link are currently working.
I find the best polkas to dance to, I prefer dancing the Alpine versions, you need to be fit, are the more instrumental songs.
But vocal or instrumentals, you cannot keep still while a polka is playing.

    3. Yeah, there are lots of polkas in the archives, but I meant new stuff this year. I already have some Christmas polkas in the pile for next year that I've found in the past couple of weeks. :)

    4. Thanks Brian, Ernie, I do have any and everything Ernie has ever shared, as FARRRRR back as possible. I just know that there's more polkas and oompah music yet to be discovered. But I will survive! I have the archive to sustain me. -Organ

    6. Ernie, I was about to go into great detail about my love of old unheard $1 second-hand vinyl finds. But you know the drill. Yes. masochist! -Organ

    7. I hear you. I would rather by thirty $1 records than one $30 repress of something I already have. If I come away with a couple of interesting sounds, I'm tickled pink. If I want perfect sound, I can stream it or download it. And those shiny new records will be old before you know it.

    8. Fantastic! A friend's mom said that about me. (He'd rather spend a $1 on JUNK a hundred times, than spend a $100 on something NICE once) like she had dirt in her mouth. And I said "What's your point?". Yeah, I'm losing my hearing (so grab the headphones) and storage space is limited. Hard drive space on the other hand, is quite plentiful. -Organ

  5. Günter looks like he's posing for a catalog. (The cozy cable knit is only $19.95.) Apparently his guests sit on a sled while he feeds them fruit and freshly-cracked nuts?
