The Many & Varied Characters Of Christmas

I've said for years that Santa has to have more helpers than just Rudolph, Frosty, eight other reindeer and a handful of elves. It takes a village to pull off an operation as large as Christmas, and each of those villagers has his own story to share. Another Full Saturday-Part 11

I spent a lot of time back in the days right after Christmas in July recording all these singles. I was trying to get between five and ten records a day copied to the computers, and I did that for a month and a half. And then I slowed down a little for another month. I kept going right up until recently, but at a much slower pace. In the end, I had a little over 24 hours of music from singles to share with you. And that's why I'm throwing them up at such a crazy pace. This is Louis Paul-It's Christmas Time (And We Are All Alone) b/w Santa Claus Is On His Way Again (Enterprise 7" 45 RPM ENA-9060, Stereo, 1972). Not at all what I expected from a subsidiary of Stax.

It's pretty rare to see releases on the RCA subsidiary Vik, and it's even rarer to see Christmas releases. Gisele MacKenzie's great Christmas LP originally came out on Vik, but was later reissued on RCA proper. And this share is the only Christmas single I've ever seen on the label, though that doesn't mean there aren't any more. But regardless on the label of origin, I'm sure you'll enjoy Patty Brandon With Pete De Angelis' Orchestra And Chorus-Christmas Prayer b/w Fairyland (Vik 7" 45 RPM 4X-0245, Mono, 1956).

Christmas At The Mall

Here's something I don't think you see every day. It's a record put out by a mall in New Jersey! (And it's still there!) Pretty sure it's just a couple of licensed tapes that they paid to release here, but it's a unique memento of a time when malls reigned supreme on the face of the earth. They don't even have a complete track listing on this thing, so I had to guess at a few songs, and at least one two three four five is are still unknown to me, so maybe you can help me put a name to the songs. Ooh, here's a good one with absolutely no Rolling Stones connection what-so-ever. Took me a bit to hunt this one down, but I don't think it's all that rare. This is The Keith Richards Orchestra-There's A Hole In My Christmas Stocking (Tiger 7" 45 RPM #151, Mono, 1965). It's the same song on both sides, but with some different overdubs. One side is all done up Chipmunk-style! And there was a nice little piece of paper stuck in the sleeve with this one. I find this sort of thing occasionally with the records I buy, and it lets me know that someone was trying hard to get this song played on the radio, even years after it's original release. Lakeland is my hometown, but I don't think that's where I found this record. Pretty sure it came from the voluminous bins at Bananas Records in St. Pete.
