A Week And A Day
I just wanted to hop in here for a second while you're busy downloading and find out who's stopping by. I'd appreciate it if you could leave a comment with your name and where you're from, and if you feel like it, tell me what your favorite share has been so far. I'm not anywhere near done with the Christmas music yet, though I think I can see the end from here. I love that you've all made my little blog a piece of your annual holiday tradition, and I hope you'll keep coming back for as long as I can do this. I put out this same request for a roll-call a couple years back and got something like 79 comments, so that's the number to beat. I'm not sure if I have 79 unique visitors, but some of those comments were me responding to others. (I can't seem to find that old post to link to at the moment...) Anyhow, thanks again for stopping by, and I hope you and yours have a great Christmas!!
Hello Ernie-
ReplyDeleteI live in South Florida and visit your blog every year. I leave a few comments most years, but it's never enough to show how much I appreciate what you do. I've also posted on the Fa La La La Fireside Forum.
My favorite songs are guitar driven tunes, and the weird/oddball stuff. The Whales this year made my daughters laugh.
Truth is, I'm in the process of DL'ing a lot of stuff and will take the next few weeks and more sorting through it all. There are still 78s from last year I need to get to!!!
Thanks again & Merry Christmas.
Cheers!
Mike

ReplyDeleteI am Zoltán Levente Gugi from Hungary. Your blog is a main part of my holiday season. My ever favorite share is Urbie Green And His All-Stars-A Cool Yuletide Volume II (X (RCA) 7" 45 RPM EP EXA-51, Mono, 1954). And this year favorite is the Burl Ives Christmas át White House. Thank you very much! Happy Holiday!
ReplyDeleteI'm here! Hello!
ReplyDeleteVisito seu site quase todo dia. Faço seleções de música de natal e tocamos em casa em todos os natais já há alguns anos. Agradeço muito.
ReplyDeleteSteve from Southern Ohio. Yes you are now a tradition. Favorite post so far ..... The Concordia Choir, Around the Christmas Tree. You keep doin' it, we'll keep lovin' it!
ReplyDeleteBuster from Northern Ohio. I particularly like the chlldren's choirs ringing handbells accompanied by organ.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, you're the best!
Dave here - I've been looking forward to your shares since 2006, back in the good old days when sharity sites ruled the interwebs, none of this "here's a playlist to listen to on Soundcloud or Spotify" garbage - I want the files! I'm a traditional song fan, not into the cheesy original tunes bands make up out of thin air sort of thing. I've got thousands of Christmas songs all cued up and ready to play, but I always stop in here literally every day of the season for more. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteHello Ernie, I wish for you and your family to have A Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year 2022. I hope that someday you might add more from your first years of your https://ernienotbert.blogspot.com/https://ernienotbert.blogspot.com/ Pages On the Internet. I can only just Imagine the great number of Albums & all of your music Songs that you have collected over the years. A Trillion Thank-You's for your Time and Efforts, they sure are making the world a better place and putting on A Christmas To Remember for everyone. Stay Healthy, Safe and Enjoy your Holidays... Stan
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Ernie! I'm loving those Air Force and Army albums here in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. I went to college with many of those talented musicians. They used to issue those recordings annually--not so much any more. Great to hear them again!
ReplyDeleteIt's me! Stubby from NC. And it's gotta be the Whales (ooh, flashback to that Star Trek movie: "Admiral, there be whales here"). Although the Peaches were pretty sweet, too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays from southwest Missouri! I'm so grateful for everything you've posted over the years, but the Air Force/Army/Navy albums have been my favorites, especially the ones with Marilyn Maye and Nancy Wilson. I also can't get through my holidays without those Seventh Day Adventist PSAs. Thank you so much for everything.
ReplyDeleteGreeting from San Antonio! Always really enjoy all those 40's-50's shares, and in particular this year the little Little Dublin Singers. Thanks for everything you do Ernie!!
ReplyDeleteHey Ernie, It's greetings from New England. I'm a big fan but usually behind a day or two or a month or five. Not always leaving comments, but always... ALWAYS! in awe of your dedication to the cause and your never-ending efforts. Merry Christmas, it's coming up fast.
ReplyDeleteHi Ernie. Dan from St. Louis. Love all the music you share ... ok .. almost all :-) Christmas With A Feeling is my Fav so far this year. Hey can you reup Lennonka's fav Urbie Green and his All Stars - Cool Yuletide Volume II. I missed it the first time. If it is his favorite all time it must be good! Thanks for all the great music you share with all of us! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHi Ernie —
ReplyDeleteYour tracks are a huge part of the Christmas season at our house here in San Jose, CA. Thank you for bringing us so much happiness. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Ernie, it's been a crazy busy season, but I continue to find comfort, solace, and calm in your posts. I'm behind on the downloads, but hoping to catch up next week. Thanks for the shares, man.
ReplyDeleteComin' at you live and in color from Roswell, GA, where it's much too warm for December.

Hi Ernie, Eric Evansville, Indiana. Been checking you blog for years. Really enjoyed all the old 78s. Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreeting from Leeds UK. Been downloading from your blog on and off for the past 8ish years. Thank you for this insane level of detail. Ho ho ho!
ReplyDeletefrom LA and can only say I still haven't gotten to stuff I've gotten from you two years ago so I have no idea what my favorite is.
ReplyDeleteBut I do seem to enjoy everything...
Hi Ernie, thank you for your efforts over many years. I have appreciated so many of your posts over the years - in some cases, locating albums I knew as a kid, and in some cases, introducing me to new stuff. My most recent favorites have been Catherin McKinnon recordings. Many thanks and Merry Christmas
ReplyDeleteMB
Hello - living in South Korea (though my IP probably shows somewhere in the US due to VPN). I've loved anything and everything "hawaiian" or Hawaii-related. Thank you so much for the effort, time, and work you've put into all of this. So greatly appreciated!
ReplyDelete-Blau
From Ontario, Canada. I don't dl all that often. I have my own extensive (physical) collection to contend with. However, that doesn't stop me from reading all your posts (and Lee's too), especially during Christmas time. If I'm not familiar with the album, I'll find and listen to it on youtube, etc. If unable to find, I may dl but rarely keep it save a tune or two.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, keep up all your great work Ernie. It is so much appreciated.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Hello from a small no-stoplight town in Indiana! Thanks again Ernie for sharing your vast collection with all of us out here on the internet.
ReplyDeleteThe share that's been played the most at our house has been "The US Air Force Presents A Christmas Party And The Now Sound Of Christmas". It's familiar yet different enough from the traditional holiday records.
We downloaded many of your curated collections of music from the Internet Archive last year, but never did get to listening to them. Rectifying that this time around.
Hi. I'm from Vancouver, Canada, and I've really enjoyed all the shares so far. My favourite is "The Concordia Choir-Paul J. Christiansen, Director-Around The Christmas Tree".
ReplyDelete...And I should add thanks so much for the abundance of Christmas music you share every year! It's very much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteHi there. I'm trying to post. I'm not sure if this will work. I have been loving your music for years!
ReplyDeleteI'm Jonathan, from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada.
I have an iTunes library, of over 131 days of Christmas Music... with a big thank you to you :)
Hi Ernie
ReplyDeletePeter here, from Los Angeles. I shared the rip of The Three Suns' "Uncle Mistletoe" with ya all those years ago before you found your own 7"...
I love visiting your blog every holiday, and very much appreciate your efforts.
Hope to possibly meet you when you next stop by Amoeba!
P
Oh, and I like the Burl Ives/Tony Mottola offering best so far, with a shout out to the Sylvester and Tweetie Bird "duet"...
ReplyDeleteHi Ernie, James from Somerset in the UK here! My fav from this year so far is the The Klaudt Indian Family one - odd but good! My fav all time share is the 'Christmas In England - Carol Service In A Country Church' one.
ReplyDeleteI run www.whychristmas.com - the biggest Xmas info site on the web. The 'country church' album has allowed me to add a little online carol service to the site!
Thanks for all your sharing :)
Kurt in New York.
ReplyDeleteMark here from Music City, USA itself, Nashville, Tennessee, so of course I drop around frequently. And yes, like so many, I found The Whales utterly delightful.
ReplyDeleteHello Ernie
ReplyDeleteKent from Upstate NY
In 2000 I started creating Christmas Cd's in place of Christmas cards. About 80 a year now.
Your downloads along with other sites (less and less every year) have helped me tremendously.
I have digitized my old albums along with yard sale and thrift store purchases and I, knowing how long this takes, appreciate what you do.
My digitized library now has well over 8000 Christmas recordings with a backup...Just in case.
Merry Christmas
Thanks for all, been visiting your blog since 2009 and so do thank you for adding to my collection - coming to you from Snohomish, Washington (the other one) and echo the Burl Ives - having you add the spoken part really took that album up from just the songs - love that sort of thing about what you do - plus - you always take the time to get the titles built right (Like Discogs does) , the album, the details about composers, year, covers a back story when know - just such a joy to partake in your labors - thank you Ernie
ReplyDeleteMac
A GREAT Christmas to you as well, thanks, Ernie--and to one and all here! Terry from On-terry-o, Canada here. Lol. You shocked me, in a good way (as per usual) with that Canadian-content "Peaches" share. Thanks especially for presenting that memory.:) I've looked and looked, lo, these many decades, for another forgotten Canadian classic: "Johnny Burt and his Orchestra - A Christmas Wish," should you ever find it and kindly wish to share... THANK YOU for EVERYTHING, Ernie!:)
ReplyDeleteHowdy from Sperryville, Virginia! I am Joel (not Jumbliah), and am known for my love for everything Christmas! You really provide a wonderful service to the North Pole fan base. Thanks, and Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHello from Shelburne, VT! I love your content and really appreciate the historical information and good cheer you provide! Huge thanks!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and best wishes to you and yours! Jay from Durham, NC here, and I can't begin to express how much I appreciate and enjoy your hard work year after year! I've been coming here every year since 2009 (maybe 2008) and never fail to find something to fall in love with. OK, honestly, I turned my nose up at the Internet Archive shares until this year, when I realized I was sleeping on some amazing stuff! In some ways, I imagine digging through the Internet Archive has been every bit as time-intensive as your earlier vinyl shares! And the fantastic variety! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHowever, as much as I love the Christmas shares, which bring me back every December, Music for Hi Fi Living flipped a nostalgia switch that has had an unexpected yet powerful effect on me. Though my parents didn't have any of those specific records, that mid-to-late 50s sounds ARE the sound of my childhood and always take me back to simpler, happier times. There's no way I could thank you enough for that, for something I didn't know that I needed.
By any chance, do you still have the original rips you shared? I downloaded the "cleaned up" ones only to realize - after I deleted the originals - that I found the pops and crackles strangely comforting. Weird, I know, but Id love hear those originals again.
Again, thank you for EVERYTHING you do, and for the warmth, humor and generosity with which you do it.
This is Ken from Maryland. Thanks for the great (and sometime offbeat)music. I always I look forward to your posts every yer and check in at least every month to see if anything new has hit.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
Hi Ernie- Steve from PA- I'm enjoying your shares, though I would also say Burl Ives is my favorite. It's great to hear the full concept album with that familiar voice. Thank you for all your musical gifts!
ReplyDeleteHi Ernie (and fellow Xmas-obsessives); Chris from MA. This blog has been a staple for me for years, and I look forward to returning annually. As I've said before, discovering new Xmas music will always remind me of my late brother, and sharing in the joy of each season's entries brings me closer to his memory in ways that evoke the essence of Xmas. May your own season be filled with peace and happiness, and herald good fortune in the year ahead.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Springfield, Illinois. I think my fave that I picked up this year is the London Sound 70 "Sounds of Christmas". Love it! Thank you for the love and care and sooo much time that you put into making these wonderful recordings available. I look forward to your shares every year, and marvel at the wonderful treasures to be discovered. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteSouth Pasadena, CA here! Not sure this is from this year's batch, but the Wilder Brothers ("The Old Chimney" & "I Want A Goat For Xmas") 45 has been in rotation more than I would have wagered after the first listen, but ya never know what'll stick. You're finds have been a holiday staple for many years now, and I can't imagine the season without them. Thank you so much and the merriest of Christmases!
ReplyDeleteBack home again in Indiana! Love these posts. Sending warm greetings from the cold Midwest.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Evanston, IL. Thanks so much doing this year after year. I think my favorites have come from your internet archive scoops. Man, there are some real gems in there. Thanks for searching through it and cleaning stuff up!
ReplyDeleteSeasoned Greetings from the shore of Lake Erie, Ashtabula, Ohio. Love your blog and all you do to share such wonderful music. I've been collecting Holiday tunes for decades and you provide such a wonderful selection that is a welcome addition to our listening pleasure every Christmas!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and best wishes for a Happy, Healthy New Year from Tampa Bay. My favorite post so far? Whatever your NEXT one is. I really must compliment you on the Gisele MacKenzie and Dennis James posts, though.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas from the Hilltowns (the local catch-all term for the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains) of western Massachusetts. I don't have a favorite download from this year yet because I always manage to forget to check your blog until Christmas or New Years & then spend the day downloading everything but I'm sure I'll love at least several of the shares if not all (most??) of them.
ReplyDeleteI've been following you & downloading music since the early days & am incredibly grateful for all your shares. I love older Christmas music as well as oddball things (like the hippo song) so I always find new fun things to put on my (semi-)annual Service Station* CD mixes.
I, too, miss the vibrant sharity community of yore. I'm grateful I found the community before so much of it shut down & I'm very, very glad you're still here sharing! Thank you!!
*My brother & I both loved what we called the Service Station albums growing up - the ones from Goodyear & Firestone & other companies. He mentioned one year how much he missed them so I've been making my own ever since.
48 comments, that ain't too shabby! Thank you all for visiting, and for taking the time to leave a note. It means a lot to me to know that there are real people out there.
ReplyDeleteErnie-
ReplyDeletePatrick here! Been a very hectic year, only catching up on xmas tunes now (a bit late), but thanks as ever for doing this – it's so very much appreciated!
Thanks again for this Ernie!
ReplyDeleteEthan here, from Munich, Germany, also the San Francisco Bay Area, USA, and lots of previous US locations before. Your blog and its music became a wonderful annual tradition for me in the mid teens, but in 2021 life was such that I didn't come around - so I'm catching up here in August 2022. Thank you for curating this wonderful little corner of the Internet.
