Bottom Of The Rock 1
Speaking of album covers that feature the tree at Rockefeller Center in NYC (as well as remasters), here's a pair of remasters from Dick Leibert that feature the giant tree right there on the cover. This is an album I first shared with you back in 2007 in mono form, and I think I first shared out a stereo copy in 2010. At that time, I mentioned that the stereo version drops a couple of tracks from the mono version, so you likely needed to download both records for the whole package. What I did not know at the time, and just figured out this year when I re-recorded both, is that they are entirely different recordings. I'm guessing Leibert returned to the studio after the demand emerged for a stereo version of this album, and recreated the whole thing. It's not exactly the same arrangements though, you can pretty easily tell they are not the same recordings. So if you want the complete package, you still have to download both records, though not for the same reasons I told you all those years ago. First up, this is Dick Leibert-Christmas At Radio City (Westminster WP 6035, 1956, Mono).
1. We Three Kings Of Orient Are
2. O Tannenbaum
3. Adeste Fideles
4. O Sanctissima
5. Deck The Halls
6. Fairest Lord Jesus
7. What Child Is This?
8. Good King Wenceslas
9. The Christmas Song (O Holy Night)
10. Angels We Have Heard On High
11. Silent Night
12. Joy To The World
And then once you've downloaded the mono version, here's the stereo version. It may be a little shorter, but it's got music for both your ears. Enjoy Dick Leibert-Christmas At Radio City (Westminster WST 15017, Stereo, 1959).2. O Tannenbaum

At least the cover photo of the stereo version is better than the mono one.
ReplyDeleteThat's just my poor photoshop skills, they should be very similar.
DeleteThanks Ernie, I've been waiting a long time for the stereo version! Discogs says it was released in October 1958, and that makes sense because Leibert's RCA Radio City Music Hall Christmas album was issued in 1958, and I doubt RCA would have let Leibert go back and record a Westminster Christmas stereo album in 1959.
ReplyDeleteSounds about right to me.
DeleteGood memories of visiting the tree (the other decorations were pretty neat too) at Rockefeller Center in Midtown. Avoiding the tree lighting ritual was also a wise memory. Thanks for uploading both versions.
ReplyDeleteI loved visiting the tree, but I don't miss those crowds. I'll be back someday.
DeleteWho knew? I love discovering stuff like this. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteStuff like this complicates my life. :(
