Krog 1
I pick up a lot of Christmas records for no good reason other than they are Christmas records. And because they are cheap, I suppose. I'll give anything a try if I can pick it up for a dollar or less, and I'll spend a little more on something that looks interesting, sound unheard. Many times those things sit for a long time in my collection before I throw it on the turntable, so I miss out on a lot of finds that could be interesting right out of the gate. Not sure why I picked this one up and not sure why I decided to record it this year, but I did, and now we all get to listen to it together. And like many of my recording experiences, it ties in with a second share. So download this one and hold onto it until I post the next record, you'll see the connection. This is Bob Krogstad-It's Christmas!-A Sacred/Secular Collection For Christmas (Good Life Publications LGLP-374, Stereo, 1985). And remember kids, we enjoy both kinds of music around here, sacred and secular!
1. Gloria! (A Fanfare For Christmas)
2. What Child Is This
3. A Celebration Of Carols (O Come, O Come Emmanuel; Hark! The Herald Angels Sing; Angels We Have Heard On High; Silent Night; O Come All Ye Faithful)
4. Gesu Bambino (The Infant Jesus)
5. A Christmas Meditation
6. Christmas Lullaby (A Song For Christmas)
7. Silver Bells
8. Christmas Snow
9. Winter Wonderland
10. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
2. What Child Is This

That's the best reason to pick up a Christmas record!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Krog 2.
DeleteI wind up with a lot of records that way... :)
DeleteI often wonder who bought all these records that don't seem to have much of an audience.
ReplyDeleteYou mean besides me? Oh, you mean the original purchaser... :) I suspect that many of them were giveaways. That's why you find so many promo records out there. If the stuff doesn't sell, give it away!
DeleteSo this may have been someone trying to sell his arrangements?
DeleteNo, maybe not this one. But that doesn't mean it wasn't given away for some other reason. Maybe someone even bought it, you never know. But I don't think many of them were sold.
DeleteErnie, every time a church has a choir do a Christmas or Easter Canata, they have to or had to purchase the LP, and music books so that the choir could sing to the professional music. My wife and I were in Choirs and Singing Christmas Tree in 1990s, which was like that.
DeleteSo, quite possibly these LPs came about because of that :)
Could be, I guess. I don't remember if there was a lot of info on the backside of this one advertising the books or not.
DeleteHi Ernie,
ReplyDeleteI wish Meredith and yourself a Merry Christmas and a Great New Year.
That being said, I am all Christmased out, music wise this year. I have not even viewed most of my Holiday films on DVD either. I still will download many of your shares, and hope one day to unzip them to listen to them.
I do want to say, thank you for all your time this year and your shares.
This album and the follow up share were really wonderful for me to have listened to, to end most of my Christmas music listening pleasure this year.
There were just too many goodies this year to listen to from yourself and other sources, including my own, that is overwhelming.
I have just two more days, the 22nd and 23rd of December to listen to Christmas music this year. I am stopping listening earlier than usual. I will be spending those last few hours that I spend listening to classic's from the Time-Life series.
All the best for now.
Merry Christmas to you, and thanks for hanging out here these past few weeks!
