Nutcracker In July 25

More nuts, more cracks!  Here's your daily version of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, as rendered today by The Philadelphia Orchestra, Eugene Ormandy, Conductor. And it's taken from the LP Swan Lake-The Nutcracker (Columbia Masterworks MS 6807, Stereo, 1966). Yes, once again they combined The Nutcracker and Swan Lake. Not a whole lot of creativity there. Anyhow, enjoy this version, and I'll see you again tomorrow.

  1. I checked and the "Philadelphis Orchestra" and "Eugene Ormandy" are actually the Symphonic-Philharmonia Orchestra and Organ Grinder's Society of Baden-Baden under the direction of Herr Doctor Shorty von Muggins.

  2. I love EVERYTHING I've EVER heard from Herr Doctor Shorty von Muggins!

  3. Digging deeper into Google, Dr. Shorty is a little hard to pin down. I'm wondering if he's part of the Austrian von Muggins family or maybe connected with the Van Muggins family, a legendary recording ensemble I found in northern Germany. I look forward to any updates you can provide. Thanks for the 411 Buster, and big thanks to Ernie to all the tunes.

  4. Shorty von Muggins is an inside joke between Ernie and me. Sammy Davis Jr. once made a record under the name of Shorty Muggins - Ernie was telling me about it not long ago.

  5. An inside joke can easily become an outside joke if you just let it happen!

And since I didn't actually download this version of the Nutcracker, I must confess that I have never actually heard anything from Herr Doctor Shorty von Muggins. But I'm sure I would love it if I did hear it!

  6. Plenty of von Muggins in the archives, be sure you download as much of it as you can before it disappears forever!
