Way Out

This was a huge surprise last year when I threw it on the turntable. It's a record from a gas station that was probably given away for free at some point, and it's actually really good! Trust me on this. Don't waste any time, just go download Robert Way Orchestra And Chorus-New England Sleigh Ride Volume 1 (Fleetwood FCL3023). I don't know anything about this record other than what you see on the cover. Anybody know anything? Come on, share!

Update Oct 2009: Looks like Robert Way is in the process of remastering and re-releasing this on CD, so head on over there and get a copy of this great music from the man who created it!

  1. The file has been pulled, or at least that is the message I got when I tried to download the music. Seems someone posted a complaint.

    Bah, Humbug!

But then, as Tiny Time said "Merry Christmas to you all" (or something close to that anyway!)

  4. Don't know much about this album, except we had it growing up in suburban Boston. I recognize the cover.

Once my download waiting time is up, I'll give it a listen!

  6. I think FCLP 3023 was released for the 1967 holiday season. FCLP 3028 is a sports audio highlights album for the Green Bay Packers after they'd won their second Super Bowl in Jan 1968.

Don't see any music there, But what was there allowed me to infer the year of release.

  7. I too have an LP on Fleetwood Records: The Year Of The Tiger '68 (FCLP 30CL). It's tagline is NBD presents The Official 1968 Detroit Tiger Album. My grandmother worked at NBD (National Bank of Detroit) so that's how I got my copy.

  8. If you follow the link posted above in the comments (www.fleetwoodsounds.com), you'll discover a whole world of LPs put out by these folks. Most of them were sports-related or drum-and-bugle corps recordings. As far as we've been able to determine, this was their only Christmas record, and possibly their only straight music record. (Not that the drum corps stuff isn't music, but you know what I mean...) Their site tells of a fire destroying all of their old masters and artwork, so the chances of seeing this lost Christmas classic are slim and none.
