Fernand One
How about we head north of the border for a couple of posts here in the week before Christmas. I've got a couple of records by this French-Canadian singer (and actor) that I think are pretty good. When I first saw these records, I just assumed they were organ recordings, but I was way offbase. These are good vocal records of that Sixties vintage that we all enjoy so much. So I think you'll really get a kick out of Fernand Gignac-Fernand Gignac Chante Noël (Trans-Canada Maximum (Canada) TCM 925, Stereo, 1961).
1. Noël Blanc; Petit Papa Noël
2. Au Pays De L'Espoir
3. Promenade En Traîneau
4. Vive Le Vent; Mon Beau Sapin
5. Sainte Nuit
6. Le Bonhomme Hiver; C'est L'Hiver
7. Symphonie De Noël
8. Le Petit Renne Au Nez Rouge; Les Étoiles Sourient Pour Noël
9. Ave Maria
10. Le Bonhomme De Neige
2. Au Pays De L'Espoir
3. Promenade En Traîneau
4. Vive Le Vent; Mon Beau Sapin
5. Sainte Nuit
6. Le Bonhomme Hiver; C'est L'Hiver
7. Symphonie De Noël
8. Le Petit Renne Au Nez Rouge; Les Étoiles Sourient Pour Noël
9. Ave Maria
10. Le Bonhomme De Neige

Goof stuff - thanks, Ernie!

DeleteI'm from Montreal, Quebec. Gignac was such an important singer here (from the late 1940's until his death in 2008) that this record can be found in any thrift store, in all states possible. It's one of those that you see all the time and everywhere. However, it's a good one and very well done. His «Promenade en traineau» is a classic. He did (to my knowledge) a few other ones, the last (?) at the Oratoire St-Joseph in Montreal. --- As time goes, we hear people say that he's very «passé» but I think he was a fine singer with good prononciation, had is own voice, easily recognizable. He sang very well and was hugely popular in his time (1950s-late 1970's). Yes I like him :-) Thanks for all you share (I still didn't go through all you posted in 2024 !).
ReplyDeleteAs big as he was up North, I don't see his records very much here. That's why I love to visit the thrift stores in new places because even though it may be common there, it's new to me, and cheap! :)
