Christmas Guitars

Here's another one of those budget records that focuses on a single instrument. It's on a budget label that probably didn't spend a lot of money on the production, and it's certainly not a big name artist. But I think it's still an enjoyable album with interesting versions of some familiar carols. If you're a big fan of guitar music, all the better. This is Billy Grammer-Christmas Guitars Featuring Guitar Chimes (Classic Christmas CCR-1931, Stereo, 1977). Stay tuned, I think I have some more records in this same series.

1. Jolly Old St. Nicholas
2. (Walking In A) Winter Wonderland
3. White Christmas
4. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
5. Medley-Jingle Bells; Jingle Bell Rock
6. Away In A Manger
7. Medley-What Child Is This; O Tannenbaum
8. Angels We Have Heard On High
9. Medley-O Little Town Of Bethlehem; It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
10. We Wish You A Merry Christmas

  1. Well, well, well Ernie, it is rare I start listening to a share right after you up-loaded it, but this is an exception.
This brings back wonderful memories I have when I was in the church school choir and we alone could perform at the Saturday youth mass.

    1. That's unlike you to jump in and listen to something as soon as it's posted. Are you sure you're OK?

    2. I guess not. I had to pause watching Hopalong Cassidy, so I could listen to this album.
My best friend, who help train me for the choir, was one of the guitarist during our Saturday mass. He was one grade above me. We both left the school in the 7th grade, and continued our partnership in the public school choirs.
Besides it is Christmas, and this album just reminded me of those days.

  2. Billy Grammer is actually pretty well known. He had a major hit in 1959 with :"Gotta Travel On" and was a Grand Ole Opry regular.

    1. I've heard the name, but I couldn't tell you much about him. These labels hire folks with a little bit of name recognition, but then make quickie cash in albums like this one. It's a shame, but it's a living.

  3. I feel like there's some sort of connection between Classic Christmas and Halo Records? Am I remembering that correctly? Who knows!

    1. Probably. They seem to be the same sort of cash-in albums.

  4. Back when I was a kid in the NC Piedmont, my best friend who lived across town and who was also blind and myself, had a Christmas tradition, one we'd start on about the beginning of Summer. We'd make tapes of new Christmas records/tapes we had gotten and swop (spellcheck, that is acceptable)them when we'd meet up at the Lions Club Christmas Party. Oh we saw each other several times a year, even went to the same school a couple years, but it's just something we did. Now that I see this album, I remember this is one he taped for me, from a cassette reissue. We'd make other tapes for each other other times of the year, but we're talking about Christmas, after all LOL. Thanks for the memories and for this album again, love and praying for y'all.
