24-Suddenly Winter

If my astronomical calculations are correct, today is the day the Earth's North Pole is at it's greatest tilt away from the sun, which makes it the first day of winter. Is that the right definition? I thought it was the day we reached maximum distance from the Sun, or aphelion, but that's something else entirely and happens in July. My school days are long behind me and it gets harder and harder to remember all the fine details of such things. I'm lucky these days if I can remember which remote turns on the TC and which one controls the VCR. (Kidding, I don't have a VCR. I do still have a DVD player, but it predates HDMI so it's not hooked up to anything at the moment.) Anyhow, I'm taking a bit of a break from the Christmas music today and instead I'm concentrating on some Winter music. There are still a few holiday tracks here, and some of the winter tracks certainly reference the holidays that fall at this time of year, but the emphasis in on the season of Winter. I think it's a great collection of stuff with a few tracks that have really grown on me in the past year. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, but be sure to keep plenty of hot chocolate at hand in case you get too cold.

  1. Hi Ernie,
Just downloading this now. I bet, at least for me, this is the best playlist so far. Once I hear it, I will let you know for sure, but I doubt I will change my mind. It is always nice to have alternatives to play with your Christmas selections.

    1. It's pretty good, but I don't know if it's the best. There are plenty of good tracks here, but not enough talk of Santa and mistletoe.

  2. The Choir was a Cleveland area garage band that I used to follow when I was in high school! Some of the members later formed the Raspberries with Eric Carmen.

  4. Ernie – just wanted to say a massive Thank You for the amazing collections of Xmas tunes over the years. We sometimes like to make seasonal mixtapes for our mates, and your sets always provide amazing/wonderfully weird songs. Congratulations on 20 amazing years and happy Christmas.

  6. Great Winter playlist here; you brought a whole bunch of new songs to my attention here that I will try to elaborate on later. Will plan on playing some of these cuts the next several weeks throughout the season.

    1. You can probably get more mileage out of Winter songs than Christmas songs. :)
