Time To Check In
I'm just popping in for a second to ask how everyone is doing out there. Are you ready for Christmas? I'm not, still have to buy a couple of presents. Have you downloaded all the shares this year? Listened to any of it? Do you have any favorites? I hope you've come away with a few new things that you've enjoyed. Leave me a note and tell me how you're doing. I've been a little hands-off this season, didn't ask for Christmas cards (though several of you still sent them, so thanks!!) or where you're at. But I figure one little post to generate a little activity can't hurt anything.
doing ok. if only trump was gone.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're OK. No politics, please. I get enough of that in real life.
DeleteDoing great here Ernie! Love your post for quite some years and I hope for many years more! Oh by the way, just heard I'm becoming a grandfather. Merry Christmas!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Be sure you get the little tyke plenty of brightly colored kiddie records!
Deleteto steal from a Christmas song I got a cold for christmas.
ReplyDeleteKnock on wood, I've been lucky so far this year. Hope I'm gonna make it through without one, sorry you had to experience it. Hopefully you're better by the big day!
DeleteOn my way to an organ concert in the cathedral of Cologne, Germany where I live and looking forward to some more nice organ music from you (just kidding - there is so much of it already on the Blog).
ReplyDeleteOran tunes sound better live, and best in a big gothic cathedral. Enjoy!!!
DeleteI just listened to a set of favorites from your posts of this year. Really good material I hadn't heard before!
ReplyDeleteHope you are caught up in your shopping.
Glad there was something new and interesting for you, you're hard to shop for! :)
DeleteHi Ernie. I've never written before but I've been visiting your site every year for easily fifteen years. My relationship with Christmas and with family has changed a lot over that time but this yearly gathering of musical gems has been a constant and I wanted to finally say thank you. This year's bundles have been stellar as my favorite finds are the weirdo non-traditional things. I hope you and yours have a nice holiday season.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to say hi! Always good to hear from folks that have been coming around for a while. Hope I can keep doing this for another 20 years. :)
DeleteDear Ernie, many thanks for every song. I do like O Little Town of Bethlehem in the style of The House of the rising sun. Have a merry christmas
ReplyDeleteYeah, The Joy Strings! I remember how excited I was when I first heard that. I think they did it first, but others have done the same or similar versions.
DeleteHello Ernie, I'm another one who's followed your blog for about a decade but hasn't written in before. I thought your daily compilations this year have been exceptionally good and quite eclectic, with a nice mix of genres and a notable theme to each. I have a rather large Christmas collection myself and am always excited to hear songs I've never heard before. Some standouts this year for me have been Lonnie Donegan, Jimmie Davis, Leonard Feather.... I'm glad I've finally taken the opportunity to say thank you. You seem like a really good guy and wish you and your bride a very Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to say howdy! Merry Christmas to you and yours! Did I share anything by Lonnie Donegan? I don't remember that, but I share too much... :)
DeleteMASSIVE BIG THANKS for your ongoing efforts, Ernie.
ReplyDelete=ready for Christmas?= for the big family gathering tomorrow, yes, here in our home, pretty much, one or two little put-in-the-stocking things to go out for.
=downloaded all the shares this year?= nabbing the most recent couple of 'em right after this message.
=Listened to any of it? I'm on Jingle Bell Hustle right now.
=any favorites?= so far, I've added a few to the folder that sources the mixes for sharing out annually. The F&T was especially fun. Lots of other interesting content, wanted to pass some of it along to friends and family as soon as I heard it. Alas, competing priorities! I haven't even started making peanut brittle, plan to do that after work today.
I've got a big pile of Christmas CDs to work my way through, so I feel your pain. :)
Deletealways pull down everything and also save the pages as reference so we I start digging through it often months later, I have a point of reference.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lot of work. I thought about putting a copy of the post in the download, but that would add lot of work to my process so I thought better of it.
DeleteYou do enough already quite frankly, I can understand not adding a post in the DL.
DeleteFor me, using the firefox web brower, I just right click the mouse when i'm on the page and "save page as" and it saves the pages with pics in the folder I keep the DL's in so it's a great reference after the fact. Other browsers may not be that easy, but they all usually can save the web pages.
We'll be digging into this and the july archive when I programming a Cheeze Pleeze Christmas 2025 along with others. We do a month of Christmas shows for our weekly look at the wacky warped and weird on a number of community stations. so it's a very helpful resource, as we do it for fun, no $$$ involved.
Also, I've seen your comments on my Jingle Jetsam Blog over the years and it's always greatly appreciated. We're running thin on christmas stuff and i'll always update when I have something, but glad to see you drop by.
Good material is hard to find, so take it where you can get it!
DeleteI continue to surprise and please my wife with the tunes you share. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your wife loves it. :)
DeleteHi Ernie,
ReplyDeleteThis song, Merry Christmas Merry Christmas by Brenden Gillam is my favorite song. I do not think any song can win my heart like this song. As I wrote, I lost my father just before I turned 13 and I lost my mother right after I turned 14. They were my whole life. Ever since their passing, Christmas day has been the saddest day in my life. I just want to be alone. Even as I approach my 48th birthday, it has not gotten any easier.
You picked a good one. :)
DeleteCongratulations on the 20th anniversary, Ernie!
ReplyDeleteI generally try to download whatever I can over the season (merely a fraction of what you actually post), but rarely have time to check it out until the following year. This season I've been digging a collection from last December that you compiled of the Hollywood Pops from various Capitol Christmas comps. It's really wonderful stuff. I'm sure I'll spend next December listening to these piles of 45s you're posting now. Thanks for all the music!
I recently found another couple songs for that Hollywood Poos collection, I'll need to update it next year. Hope I still have my art files somewhere...
DeleteI plan to play my picks from what you've posted this season so far, on Christmas Day, when my wife's family comes over. I really appreciate all you do to make this music available! Happy Holidaze!!
ReplyDeleteI hope they enjoy it, tell 'em Ernie says howdy!
DeleteThe (one of many) things about this years run is you've basically done the mix tape thing for me! While I enjoyed the many posts throughout the day of previous years, I don't have to make those decisions...lol Thanks again, as always
ReplyDeleteThat's sort of how I looked at it. Each day is a nice long mix to listen to, especially when I could find a good theme with lots of records.
DeleteStill shopping for last minute stuff! Many thanks for these themed comps- I've found enjoyment in each one, and many songs new to me. I have 60-ish in a favorites mix. Love the themed Canadian mixes, as it forces me out of my normal stuff. Favorite tracks are Augie Rios "'Ol Fatso", and Lloyd Price's "Merry Christmas Mama"
ReplyDelete-Steve in PA
Yeah, I really enjoyed the Canadian stuff, lots of things that were familiar, yet new.
DeleteNot doing too bad. Unfortunately just spent Saturday morning at urgent care. Nothing that some antibiotics shouldn't fix, but still a pain.
ReplyDeleteGotta pack for our trip to Disneyland for Christmas (23rd - 26th). It'll probably be crazy crowded, but we'll be happy just to walk around and eat treats and enjoy the atmosphere.
Disneyland!! I'm jealous. Haven't been in so long. I'm sure you'll have a great time!
DeleteA MERRY CHRISTMAS & A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025 TO YOU ERNIE & YOU WIFE. TOY HAVE DONE A MARVOULUS ACCUMULATION OF SOME VERY ENJOYABLE HOLIDAY & CHRISTMAS SONGS. HOPEFULLY YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO SOMETIIME WHEN YOU HAVE THE TIME REPOST SOME MORE OF THOSE EARLY YEARS THAN MANY OF US HAD UNFORTUNATELY MISSED YEARS AGO. STILL WERE ALL ENJOYING THIS YEARS NEW CROP OF MELODIES AND TOE TAPPERS. THE OLD HOLIDAY ALBUMS ARE A REMINDER OF OUR CHILDHOOD. I THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN... SINCERELY, STANTA.. FROM THE NORTH POLE OF VERMONT..
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, but no need to shout. ;) I think much of the oldest stuff has been remastered and reposted at this point, you just have to search for it. I know I went back and redid a lot of the old singles this year.
