Sweet And Lowrey

If you made it through those first two organ demo LPs, you're going to love this one.  I mean that sincerely because this one brings something new to the table.  Some of these tracks feature vocals, and not just random voices either (look for the asterisks!).  They feature something along the lines of a Vocoder or Sonovox.  It's hard to explain, but you'll know what I mean when you download and play the music of Lowrey Brings Joy To The World (Lowrey 802219, Stereo, 1982).  I'm serious, download this, you'll want to put some of these tracks on your annual Christmas comp!

1. Steve Eaklor-Away In A Manger *
2. Seth Rye-Jingle Bells
3. Dave Smith-Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
4. Dennis Awe-O Little Town Of Bethlehem
5. DyAnne Awe-O Come All Ye Faithful
6. Dave Smith-Hark! The Herald Angels Sing *
7. Dennis Awe-White Christmas
8. Steve Eaklor-Joy To The World
9. Seth Rye-Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree
10. Dennis Awe-Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer
11. Seth Rye-Here Comes Santa Claus
12. DyAnne Awe-Sleigh Ride
13. Steve Eaklor-Silver Bells
14. Dave Smith-The Christmas Song

And yes, Dennis Awe and DyAnne Awe are married.  There's also a scanned card in the package that you tells you how to get a songbook that will let you play Christmas music like this on your Lowrey organ!

  3. THIS. IS. SWEET!!!

If you share nothing else this year, you have already hit the jackpot. I can honestly say this doesn't sound like any other record I've heard. And in a good way.

  4. It's the crazy vocals that if you listen closely aren't real words, that's what does it for me. Wish there were more of those. Maybe I could go out and buy a Lowrey organ and make my own record!

  5. i was ready to skip this one along with the other organ albums. ernie long ago pulled out all his stops in praise of these things, so i couldn’t trust him. no, it was brad that got to me. now he should go after organ-hater-number-one: buster. here, i’ll try to help. oh buster, if you are going to download one organ record this season, this should be it. why? because it’s just bizarre. several selections feature a chorus whose members all have cleft palates and sing in a language known only to themselves. in fact, i think ernie might be selling his grand tour short; for these people might very well be from antarctica. mercifully, they didn’t try to tackle ‘rudolph the red nosed reindeer’ or the PC cops would be hauling us all off to jail.

as for the rest of the music, for me it’s hit and miss. that’s high praise from someone who would normally say all miss. some of the arrangements reflect a certain aplomb, as if written to be roller rink music played only when the house is on fire. and surely, any record with two awe’s can’t expect to be taken too seriously.

  6. barba,

This is the kind of record that appeals to those who indulge in psychoactive drugs. I am not one of them. However, your description sounds like the disc may be something I should hear, just once.

You are not getting me to listen to Ernie's Marcy records, however.

  7. By the way, Dennis Awe made a solo record in the 1970s. For some reason literally hundreds of copies ended up in the local thrift stores. You still run across them 40 years later. I thought you ought to know.

  8. OMG, this is so 'silent majority '70s' (okay, technically early 80s) that I gotta have this one in my download collection NOW! awesomely cheese-tastic! :)

  9. The "silent majority 70s" take would be either Hey! This is jazzy! or Wow! So peppy!
The "vocals" on those two tracks might be nightmare inducing, but fortunately I like organ music, so I'll take them with the good tracks. Thanks, as always!

  10. LOL, love the comments, and I'm actually convince to try out another organ record. Thank you. The vocals have me curious.
