Super Saturday Salvation 8

Looks like the Salvation army was getting a bit of a jump on the Bicentennial in 1975 with this album. I was convinced this was the 1976 entry until I actually looked at the printing on the record. I guess it was a long celebration that couple of years. I was just a kid, but I remember going to see the Freedom Train as it spent a day in our small town. Oh, and the special quarters (and half dollars and silver dollars, too) that came out that year. They made so many of them that they skipped production in 1975 just to make more 1976 versions. The special guest star this year was Michael Learned, star of The Waltons. I have to admit that I didn't know who she was (or even that she was a she...), I had to look it up. This is not the only star of The Waltons that we're going to see today, by the way. For a trip down memory lane, please download Happy Birthday, America! (Army Of Stars, The Salvation Army Western Territory Public Relations Department USR 8144, Quad, 1975).

  1. I'm sure they considered Michael Learned a good get at the time. "The Waltons" was a hit show.

    1. I wasn't a big Waltons fan so I didn't know the name. There was a Walton's Christmas album, but it was elevator music with a little narration. Pretty boring.

    2. The Waltons killed the Flip Wilson show; he was fairly popular, too.

  2. I love when Christmas albums collide with history.

  3. This album came out before my birth year Ernie. While it was very nice, I will give it maybe a 7 out of 10. It lost a point because they were probably paying Miss Learned by the word. Okay, she might have done it for free, but if you took a toilet break or sneezed, you missed what she said. What a waste. Goodnight John-Boy, Goodnight...thank goodness. And people really watched this show for 9 seasons? Sorry for being mean.
That being said, Northridge was some miles from where I grew up. 1994 Northridge earthquake scared the blank out of me. Even though it lasted only seconds, your body felt it for hours and days afterwards. Would there another? And the aftershocks...

    1. Was that the earthquake that happened just before a World Series game? I remember seeing lots of coverage of that one on TV when it happened.

    2. That one was in San Francisco. I was watching when it happened.

    3. Oh, then I don't remember the Northridge quake then.
