Super Saturday Salvation 16
This is a weird one. I checked and double checked, but this is the second Army Of Stars record released in 1981. Why would they release two different versions in one year? I have no idea. There doesn't seem to be any relation between the two, they just seem to co-exist in the same universe. The guest star here is Macdonald Carey, but I'm afraid I have absolutely no idea who that is. (To the Wikipedia!) While I'm trying to figure out what made this guy famous, please download and enjoy Thou Bethlehem (Army Of Stars, The Salvation Army, Western Territory, Community Relations And Development Department, KM 7006, Stereo, 1981).

I know for a fact that MacDonald Carey narrated the opening segment of Days of Our Lives for many years.
ReplyDeleteIs there a chance that one of these may be narrated by Paul Harvey?
Haven't seen a Paul Harvey, but that would be a good one!
DeleteAnother movie and TV star before your time.
DeleteThis will go great with my soap opera playlist! I do have a Days of Our Lives Christmas album but it's from 2001 and it doesn't look like MacDonald Carey is on there.
DeleteI'm glad you folks know who this is, I had no idea...
DeleteFYI, I found a Salvation Army CD this past weekend with Paul Harvey doing some bits. Doesn't say it's part of the Army Of Stars series, but it sure looks like it would have fit right in here. I don't see it on Discogs or on the wider web. Reba McEntire was the host on the second half of the CD. Maybe I need to enter it in.
DeleteI didn't capitalize the artist names on this one, I must have been sleep-posting.
ReplyDeleteNot capitalize, I mean bold. :(
DeleteThis was a strange one indeed. Even Rogar and group were not up to par. If you listen closely, the production itself seems like they took less care with it.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing some old movie on TV with him. I never sought him out in another film on DVD actually.
Maybe, I give this a 7, maybe?
Some of these do feel more rushed and slapped together than others. I imagine it was quite an ordeal to put together every year early enough to distribute by Christmas. I suspect that's what led to the end of the series just a few years after this one.
