Super Saturday Salvation 5

Five am, time for share number five. Not sure if anyone is even up and playing along this early in the day on the US east coast, but maybe some of our European friends are awake. Number five features absolutely no mambo, but the guest artist is Betsy Palmer. I'm afraid I have absolutely no idea who that is. Perhaps Wikipedia can enlighten us. In the meantime, please give a listen to Joy To The World (Army Of Stars, The Salvation Army. Western Territory, Public Relations Department, 40940, Stereo, 1972). The title on this one, while appropriate, is kind of meh, as is the artwork. We're getting into those dull Seventies colors now.

1. Joy Davidson-O Thou That Tellest Great Tidings
2. Robert Hale-The Trumpet Shall Sound
3. Stuart Burrows-O Little Town of Bethlehem
4. Army Of Stars Orchestra-Joy To The World
5. Joy Davidson-Sweet Little Jesus Boy
6. Stuart Burrows-It Must Be Love That Leads Me On
7. Patricia Brooks-Doretta's Aria
8. Betsy Palmer-Narration-The Meaning Of Christmas
9. Azusa Pacific College Choir-Earle Anderson, Director-Westminster Carol

  1. Betsy Palmer was all over the TV when I was a kid, notably as one of the panelists on the game show "I've Got a Secret."

    1. Was her secret that she appeared on this record?

    2. I think it was her career outside of the game show.

    3. She played the mother of one of those mad-slasher-guys-in-a-mask. I don't recall which one.

    4. I'm sure I wouldn't have seen that!

  2. I will always remember Betsy Palmer for playing Willie Aames' grandmother on Charles In Charge, but I'm weird that way.

I briefly misread Joy Davidson as "Joy Division". Having THEM on a Salvation Army album would have been very strange!

    1. Ha! Charles in Charge!

And I thought it said John Davidson, which wouldn't have been quite the stretch of Joy Division, but still out there.

  3. Betsy Palmer was also Jason Voorhees' mother in the first Friday the 13th movie! And I actually really enjoy those Seventies colors.

    1. Someone mentioned horror movie somewhere. I'm not much for watching such things, I actually enjoy sleeping at night and don't want to lose that ability.

  4. Ha Ha Ernie,
When I tell my German (and other Nationalities too) clients and friends we root for the killers in these movies, they think we are nuts. But come on, these teenagers are from stupidsville.
That being said, this album was a vast improvement over the 1971 outing.
Plus Betsy Palmer was s c a r y... I was waiting at any moment to hear a slashing sound. Just kidding. Her story was a really good one. Pity, she forgot the meaning it held, when just a few years later she was slashing all those so called innocent teenagers.

    1. I don't think she was the one doing the slashing in those movies, though it might have been an improvement if she'd slashed Scott Biao when she had the chance...

    2. Oh, but she was. She slashed those stupid teens because she was angry because of the death of her precious little mamas boy. Well at least in the first film. I cannot remember how, but it was through her, that Jason came back to life to continue her bloodshed. Ah, do you not just love families that do things together.

    3. I guess I never really watched those slasher movies. Not my bag.

    4. I have not seen to many of them, but they are all the same. Stupid people, who should know better, but do not.

While you are rooting about Scott Biao, you should see what Freddie Kruger did to Johnny Depp...

    5. No, no I shouldn't. They'll give me nightmares. :(
