Super Saturday Salvation 21

I suspect this next record is the closest we're going to get to the sound you expect when you hear about The Salvation Army Band. It's also the oldest, I believe. This is William Booth Singers And The International Staff Band Of The Salvation Army-Christmas With William Booth Singers And The International Staff Band Of The Salvation Army (Alma Records/A Christian Faith Recording 673, Stereo, 1961). Nice cover on this one, really playing into the legend of the Salvation Army Band.

1. The Carollers
2. Christians Awake
3. Noel Medley
4. See Amid The Winter's Snow
5. The Festive Season
6. Glory In The Highest
7. God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen
8. Christmas Joy Medley
9. The Spirit Of Christmas
10. Child Of Mary
11. Christmas In Europe
12. Once In Royal David's City
13. Silent Night! Holy Night!
14. Good King Wenceslas
15. O Come, All Ye Faithful

  2. Ernie, a let down?
This is how I remember hearing The Salvation Army, minus the singing group. It is tops for me. While not a favorite, I liked it a lot anyway.

I am sure the Army of Star albums are good, if not great too. I will get to them real soon.

    1. Well, after all the big names and stars on the previous SA albums I shared, this one just didn't seem to measure up.

    2. Well I only heard the Jack Jones one you shared I think last year. I liked that one, but I listened to it long after you shared it.

The Army of Stars albums, you have shared this year, are waiting to join a new queue. I wanted to get the non-Army of Stars out of the way first.

Besides, I have several mp3s of the Salvation Army, and their music on those is what is presented here.

It was my first introduction to there music, besides seeing them outside a store or in some form of media. Here, it was just them and there horns or whatever. So, I purposely saved the "Stars" for last. Hopefully the best for last?

    3. Well, the Army of Stars records are not the brass band music that people expect from the SA. To be honest, most of the vocals are downright operatic.
