Super Saturday Salvation 17
Wow, this is a really long series. I can't believe how many records I've posted here today, and I'm not done yet! Have I ever done a series with this many entries? I can't think of anything. Up next is 1982 and, believe it or not, the voice of God himself, Charlton Heston! Who better to read these bible versus interspersed with pieces from Handel's Messiah. Heston recorded pretty much the whole bible at one point or another during his career, so there's not really anything new here, but it's great to hear his voice talking about something other than apes or Soylent Green. This is Christmas Music From Handel's Messiah (Army Of Stars, The Salvation Army, Western Territory, Community Relations & Development Department KM 10534, Stereo, 1982).

This is certainly impressive!
ReplyDeleteThe Voice of God (and Moses) himself!
DeletePerhaps unsurprisingly, I would actually enjoy a soylent green themed Christmas album.
ReplyDeleteWho else was in Soylent Green? We can put together a comp!
DeleteWell, well, well, no, no, no.
ReplyDeleteOkay it is just not for me.
I have never liked Opera.
I have never been a fan of this work either, even though I have it by the great Walter Susskind. I cannot even listen to it.
While I have seen several of Charlton's films, once were enough and I do not remember them. Of course the films, "The Greatest Show on Earth" and "The Ten Commandments", I liked, but they were all star films with many actors I knew about and or liked from TV or DVD viewings.
I gave up listing right after the first 7 tracks.
Just not my thing. I give it a dim 5.
Bryan - This isn't even the whole oratorio, which lasts about two and a half hours.
DeleteYou are kidding?
DeleteI could not even get past 7 tracks?
While I trained in school as a boy soprano and then as a Tenor, I was never trained for Opera. But then again, it was only Grade and Junior and Senior High Schools. I refused to try out for my College and University Choirs, I just moved on.
That being said, having ADHD or ADHS, classical music, for the most part, really stresses me. So instead of calming me, it does the opposite.
Bryan - Well, different people like different kinds of music, and that's great! Many classical works are acquired tastes, for sure. You might try the more modern version of Messiah on my blog. Well recorded, beautifully sung. It includes a boy's choir (from Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford):

Again, this is not the whole work, just the most famous pieces.
Thanks Buster, I will check it. I have been to the Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford. It was a few years ago though.
DeleteI don't think I've ever listened to the whole thing in any form, just abridged versions and tracks here and there. It's not really my style to be honest.
