What The Dickens 4

What's this? Yet another Christmas Carol? I didn't even realize this one was in the pile, but there it was when I was looking for something else. I've really got to start planning these things out better. This is Frank Pettingell-Directed By Arthur Luce Klein-Frank Pettingell Presents Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol (Westminster Spoken Arts-Great Artists Series 728, Mono). I love these old spoken word records. Well, I like the idea of them but I rarely listen to them. Sort of audio books before there was such a thing. I don't listen to those either, for what it's worth.

2. A Christmas Carol Part 2

  1. I like these Spoken Arts records that have a cover that looks like a book. It almost works, but not quite.

    1. Well, at least you get the idea that you're looking at something having to do with a book...

  2. Well Ernie, I listened to this version of a Christmas Carol today, Dec. 1st. I have 16 versions at various lengths and by year. As this one has no year listed, and i could not locate its year, it was first on the list.
I really enjoyed it. I am glad you shared it.

    1. I believe this originally came out in 1959, which is the date I should have put on it, but I don't know when this particular edition was issued. Unless he made more than one version, which I doubt.

  3. Hi Ernie,
Discogs has 5 versions of this. However, not one of them had the picture on the disc matching your version.
I too would have said 1959, because it was originally an England pressing, or was it?
Anyway, i will go ahead and file it at 1959. Thanks.

    1. That's probably why I didn't put a date on it, since there was no exact match. I've been working on this stuff for so long I can't remember what my exact thought process was sometimes.

  4. I, too, enjoy the book-shaped cover. Probably more than I will enjoy the album but you never know!

    1. Yeah, how many times can you listen to the same story over and over. But a good cover is unique! :)
