What The Dickens 1

After that giant sharity of a Saturday yesterday, I'm slowing things down a little bit here with a few different versions of A Christmas Carol. I'm starting with a single-disc highly-abridged version that's aimed squarely at the kiddie market with a vaguely psychedelic cover image that doesn't seem to have anything to do with the story at hand. And it's part of the Adventure Hour Series (thus the Volume Seven in the title), I guess because of all the ghosts involved. How many ghosts? Four! I don't care what anyone says, there are four ghosts! Past, Present, Future and Marley! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Let's give a listen to Professor Margaret C. Tyler-Volume Seven-A Christmas Carol (T.o.T. Productions 1813, 1973). More ghosts to come, I promise.

  1. Ha Ha Ernie, you are funny.
    1. Yes there are 4 ghosts. Maybe even more as Scrooge is eating that left over gruel, nightmares indeed.
    2. The picture has a Victorian feel to it, but maybe it was a reject-leftover for a Robin-Hood or King Lancelot record?

    1. Yeah, the cover feels like a leftover, or a generic image for a whole series of records, nothing to do with Dickens.

  2. Ernie, thanks for this. I love these Scrooge albums. I will had to to the other versions I have collected, some through you or from myself.
My only complaint from all of these, books to realizations, if it is "not" in the book, do not add it in. No new scenes, no new characters no different names, no story changes, nothing.
That is why I hate the film, The Sound of Music. It is made up, just sacrilege. I like/love the music though.
Anyway, cannot wait to hear this one.

  3. Hi Ernie,
I remember asking you about this last year I believe, but...
I think it was 2 years ago, you were able to find out where your downloads were being made from.
    Last year, you were not?
What about this year? Probably useless as I use VPN, and the countries constantly change.

But do you have any idea as to how many each share gets downloaded?

    1. No idea where they are stored, but MEGA is based out of New Zealand. As far as a number of downloads, I have no idea. They don't share that info because they don't want people to try and 'compete' for downloads. Back in the old days, you could get points for downloads because you were driving traffic and eyeballs for ads, but then they got in trouble with the authorities for the sharing of too much intellectual property. At least that's my take on the whole thing.

  4. That is a real shame. At least you get comments. Altough many are from the same people though. It really must make your day when a new person comments.

Like me, most of the people I organize for never offer meaningful thanks. I do get thanks, but I have to pat myself on the back a lot. But I love what I do. If it is organized for me, than that is what counts.

    1. You gotta do it for yourself, not for others. Some people comment, some don't, it's OK.

  5. I've been staring at the cover, trying to determine the most mystifying element. I think it has to be what appears to be an octopus, which I don't think figured in the original story.

    1. You don't remember that part where Scrooge is lamenting his ability to capture the great white whale, and the giant Kraken emerges from the sea and attacks the ship?

    2. Oh yeah - the unexpurgated version!

  6. It looks like Captain Nemo and Meriwether Lewis were also involved in the Kraken attack. Dickens got around way more than I knew.

    1. I think there's a dog in there as well, no idea what he's doing. It's got layers, like an onion.

    2. Layers, like an onion or one of those Russian Matryoshka dolls. Deep, man. Really deep.

  7. Speaking of Saturday mornings, that cover reminds me of the introduction to ABC Weekend Specials.
