Christmas Bonus 4
I wish I'd had all these newer records when I sorted all the other records into themes. I'd have loved to get the UFO record above into the Space Age Santa group. There are plenty of other records in all these bonus shares that could have fit well into many of the themes I created this year. If you want, you can sort them into the proper piles yourself, and remove all those extra versions of Silent Night or Jingle Bells. I'm not going to do that myself as it's unlikely I'll ever again have enough singles to make it worth revisiting this project. But maybe I'll run into some collector who wants to offload a bunch of rare records for cheap, you never know. Unfortunately, rare tends to equate to expensive in the collecting world, and quality doesn't enter into the equation at all. It's hard to be cheap sometimes. Anyhow, this is another batch of Christmas music that I found on singles this season after the sharing had begun, so enjoy!

ReplyDeleteI wish!! :)
DeleteWell, you've now featured 3 of the 4 entertaining sides from the Have a Jewish Christmas EP. I look forward to hearing "The Party".
ReplyDeleteI'm sure we'll get to all four. The LP has plenty more, but we're concentrating on the 45s this year. :)
DeleteLike wow! Kookie Edd included this time :-) Thanks Ernie, you're hip.
ReplyDeleteI grabbed it for the b-side actually. The a-side is pretty common and available wherever fine records are sold. :) I'm not as hip as you might think.
DeleteLoved the Kenny Burrell- what a great guitar sound on Little Drummer Boy. That Les Paul guy isn't bad either. Of the many Chrirmas singles about the Vietnam War, Private Charles Bowens' is one of the best. And Christmas UFO is very creative- thanks for these!

I seem to recall that the Kenny Burrell LP was playing in the store as I was flipping through the 45s, so I thought it was an appropriate choice. :)
DeleteHello, I would like to once again Thank you for these great old songs of yesterday's gone by. Back on Saturday, December 12, 2015 you did this one This is a remaster from a stereo copy of a share from way back in the first year of the blog, 2005. I'm sure you will enjoy The Jimmy Joyce Singers With Orchestra Conducted By Billy May-A Christmas To Remember (Warner Bros WS 1237, Vitaphonic Stereo, 1958). Sadly, I seemed not to of gotten it. Could you Please & Thank You if you do a re-post of this old Album for me and all of your other followers, I am sure that they all also would like this special great old Album too. Hearring this Old Songs and Albums is like having a RealTime Machine being transported back to December 1958. many thank yous for all you have done this season...Its one of your Best Years ever. Take care Stay Healthy Happy & Safe & Prosper in the New Yeat of 2025. Sincerely, Stan
ReplyDeleteThanks for the note. Pretty sure that Jimmy Joyce record wound up being streamed and sold by the copyright owner, so it was no longer something I could share. It's good stuff, but I love anything Billy May does. :)
Deletei thank you for your fast response. darn I had thought if it was an updated or re-done Album that things could be shared. but there's an entire bunch of folks that are trying to eliminate the old great songs and albums form ever being heard by us folks that are not in know like you are. plus, it's a small part of our past back in 1958. And like all vehicles of that time period, they should be tossed out & forgotten I guess... It seems things are going bye bye the way of the Dotto Bird. Sadly, these and Millions of other once great ones will just fade away and die. take care and thanks again. Stan
DeleteIt's not being forgotten, there's just a legitimate reissue of it available. You can get it at Spotify:

Or Tidal:
https://tidal.com/browse/album/65488648
Or any number of places. I'm not going to give it to you for free. That runs a large risk of getting the blog shut down and then I'm not able to share any music with you.
Hopefully one day I can find a copy of Fay McKays Christmas on LP(I heard it exists but have never seen a copy of the LP, only 45s). The Private Charles Bowen is stone cold classic. The John Edward’s is up there with Luther’s work as my favorite on the funky Christmas comp. William Bell’s Christmas work are so good. The Nelson Young is new to me but I’m really digging it. The brothers four is some of my favorite folk Christmas songs. Kenny Burrell’s album might be a top 5 album for me. Captain sensible is new to me but I’m loving it. Also can’t go wrong with Dorothy Collins, Boots, and Patti!
ReplyDeleteI think the Fay McKay might be a disappointment to you, but if you can dig it up, please be my guest. I remember it being really short, but that may have just been the digital copy someone sent me once upon a time. I was not impressed. And if you like the Captain Sensible, dig up one of those 80's Christmas collections that feature it. Probably on CD only, but there are lots of good 80s songs out there.
