Christmas Bonus 3
Welcome to day three of the bonus round here at Ernie (Not Bert)! It's also day 48 of regular sharing around here, so it's been a really long season. Turns out it's not a record though. The record was back in 2020 when the sharity season extended all the way to February of 2021! That was the year I shared 78 RPM records from the Internet Archive with you for the season and I just kept finding new goodies to share. The very last share was February 8th, but I didn't share an actual Christmas record with you that day, it was a record given away for Christmas of 1946, so close. Those shares are all still out there by the way, so if that sounds at all interesting I encourage you to go download them. Many of those records are no longer available for listening or download at The Internet Archive since the major labels have sued them for copyright infringement. And I guess they have a point, but some of that stuff is so old as to be worthless. They just couldn't let us have a good thing, I guess. In newer news, I'll point out the featured label above and mention that it's an interesting version of White Christmas featuring both Hitler and Elvis. Don't say I didn't warn you. (I also love the misleading title. You'll see the same sort of thing on side two when I get around to sharing it.) Another great batch of recent finds today, and another day of duplicating an artist, unfortunately. Download and enjoy, you won't regret it.

The Poor Souls is a big Beach record. It's been in my collection for decades and always makes me happy hearing it.
ReplyDeleteI wondered about that record. I found it an another record on the same label at the same time in a tiny record store I'd never visited before. Had to buy them both, of course. Glad someone recognized it. :)
DeleteGoodie - another Christmas Seals pitch!
ReplyDeleteI think I found a Johnny Mathis and an Andy Williams late in the season. One of them came from the same record store mentioned above. Funny how these things show up. :)
DeleteBoy oh boy, the "Shirley & Squirrely" GRT records sure brought back some CB Radio memories :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ernie :)
My Dad used to have a CB Radio in our ole' comprised bus (along with an 8-Track player), and in our station wagon. We would listen to it all the time, listening to the truckers, until my parents got too tired of the talk being either "too colourful" and or their "vocabulary was to small" ;) That put an end to it, but before the day of easily available cellphones, my parents would talk with each other (between the home and the shop) via CB Radio also :)
Anywho, my family had a couple "CB Radio" lps, and on one of them (I think Radio Shack), it had at least one "Shirley & Squirrely" track on it, which started out the same way :)
I'd owned the Shirley & Squirrely LP for a long time and never paid much attention to it, but I figured the single was something I should listen to. I had a few of those trucker/CB records growing up when my dad was a long-haul trucker for a year or two. Roll on!
DeleteThank for another great collection Ernie ;-)
ReplyDeleteI find 'em, I share 'em. It's my job.
DeleteSo many great tracks this week- Jerry Conrad/Steve Hoskins "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" stands out. And Freddie Starr's take on White Christmas was the most unique version of that song. Also loved Society 's Children version of same song. Thanks Ernie!
ReplyDelete- Steve in PA
Yeah, that Freddie Starr was quite the surprise when it started coming out of the speaker. Not quite sure what I'd gotten my hands on there...
DeleteThe Trini Lopez here is so dang fun! That’s a new one for me. Other new ones I’m loving: Society’s Children, Betty Wright(corny as hell but so smooth), Peter & Ulysses, The Davidsons, Cliffie Stone, Jerry Conrad (this is instantly one of the top versions I’ve heard of it. This version gives me Les Humphrey singers vibe!). This collection is also my reminder to track down that Roy Smeck collections. Great stuff!
ReplyDeleteThe Trini Lopez track was a promotional thing for Fresca. I figured it was close enough to Christmas to include it here. Glad you found so many tracks here to enjoy. :)
